    Shields to the Royals?

    Are they trying to contend...?

    Terrible trade.

Wil Myers is going to be a stud.

Well that pretty much guarantees the Rays finish in last place next year.

I think the Royals will be much better next year maybe have a shot at a wild card

Possible...but they'll compete I could see every team in the AL East finishing above .500

They weren't going to be able to keep that staff together much longer anyways. Shields will be a free agent in two seasons. Seems pretty risky to let Wil Myers walk without Shields wrapped up long term.

Everyone says Rays cleaned up, but myers best comp is "a right handed Jay bruce," Odorizzi is a mediocre #2 at best, plust a few other decent prospects. Montgomery has upside of a #2, but injury concerns linger.

Last year, KC team wins was 80.5 and their pitching was horrendous + Hosmer was a hole in the lineup for two months. Projecting them for a .500 year in 2013 won't be a stretch. An injury to Miggy/Prince/JV, and the Royals are in the thick of the central race.

That being said, this move reeks of Dayton Moore trying to save his job....

myers has the up side of a top ten player in the league. even doubting he reaches that level, he should still provide more value than a starting pitcher.

montgomery was a really good prospect a few years ago, but is having command issues. if anyone can fix a pitcher, it would be the rays organization.

so if the rays get two rotation players or at least one and an all star in myers, they would have destroyed in this deal.

this still doesn't consider player control and value in relation to pay.
