Yankees Offer Kevin Youkilis 1-Year, $12M Deal

    BY DOUG RUSH

    ON DECEMBER 6, 2012

I honestly never thought Kevin Youkilis would ever wear pinstripes.

And yet, in 2013, there's a possibility he could be donning them in the Bronx.

During the Winter Meetings on Wednesday, the New York Yankees met with Youkilis' agent, Joe Bick, to discuss a potential deal.
On Thursday, according to Bryan Hoch of MLB.com, the Bombers officially made an offer to the former Boston Red Sox infielder

The Cleveland Indians are also in "hot pursuit" of the 34-year-old third basemen, who likely would use him at first base, according to Nick Cafardo of the Boston Globe.

Youkilis made $12.25 million in 2012, so with the Yankees offering him that much money to take the place of Alex Rodriguez in wake of the news that A-Rod needs surgery on his hip, that one-year, $12 million offer could really entice Youkilis to make the jump to the Bronx.

Youkilis would be joining a class of guys like Johnny Damon, Roger Clemens and Wade Boggs, who were all former and important Red Sox players who went on to play for the Yankees in their careers.

In fact, all three eventually went on to win a World Series with the Bombers during their tenures in the Bronx.

Now all that matters is if Youkilis will accept the one-year deal, or if he and his agent are more interested in getting a multi-year deal in free agency

As a Sox fan, neither would I. I love Youk, one of my favorite players, but he's a shell of his former self.

At first i was totally against it.

But the guys a gamer and he gets on base

Problem is his number have been declining. But he reminds me alot of O'neil Tino Scott Brocious

We need more of those types than the superstar types

But i think 12 mil a yr is a little steep

Maybe 3 yrs ago he was worth that

    Not anymore

People seem to think that getting cheap free agents is easy - 12 Million for Youkilis carries some risk, depending on how much you think last years injury fueled decline was permanent.

Bill James projects him at 371/465 21HR which would make him well worth 12million - and his ability to hit lefties well will spare him some wear on his body as he can Play some 1st base to spell Tex vs lefties.

Even with the risk, its a single year deal so even if he flames out he will occupy the slot for a couple of months bridging the gap to Arod return.

    Will be a non factor

Fully expecting the Yankees to go thru some lean years coming up

Probably wont even make playoffs next year

Too many old broken down players

Youks awkward facial hair will fit right in in Clev...where there's no expectations and his old manager

if I was a MLB player and wanted to mail it in for a year or two, I'd go to the Indians....and they serve great brats there too!

Dwindling numbers and fading health....Yanks shelling out 37 mill to fill 3b I dont get it.
25 for Arot 12 for Youroldliss and probably could get more out of a rookie there for 2 mill
I guess they want Arots bat in the playoffs
