More Proof that John Calipari can only win when they have absurd talent.

The guy is not a great coach. He is a great recruiter and manager of talent. But unless his team is loaded, top to bottom with NBA talent - he struggles. Always has, always will.

I will say it again. Worst UK team since he arrived. Noel as the best recruit in the nation was nothing but a joke.

Thats how most colleges work. Get the big name coach so he can get the big name players. Look at Arkansas trying to get Les Miles. Or Tennessee and John Gruden.

Really it is not lack of talent but experience that makes this team different, last years team had a senior and 2 sophomores who are in the NBA as returning players and this team only returned one player(Wiltjer) who played at all and he did not play much. Noel is overrated maybe but Polythress or however you spell it actually might be the best freshman in the nation? Probably still 5 NBA players on the team

He is awful against the spread even with a good team learn your lesson and move on. Last year they were 16-23 vs the line and at one point lost 14 in a row ATS!!!! They are 0-3 thus far and im gonna ride against till she bucks me. GL

That talent really isn't there. The only player that is "Kentucky good" on this roster is Archie Goodwin. Hell, there isn't a single player on that roster outside of Goodwin that I would look at if I was an NBA GM.

Noel is one dimensional and is a mental midget when it comes to bball IQ. On defense he plays out of place simply so he can cherry pick blocks. On offense, he wants and thinks he is a goddamn guard. His complete fundamentals are so shaky, it is hard to build on.

I'd take Mitch McGary every single freaking day over Nerlens.

As much as I dislike UK, give them some time. Man, most of this team was playing HS ball this time last year.

UK is young and soft. If these guys stick around they will be good. Bunch of freshmen on the road against a pretty good team with 5 returning starters.

I don't know what you mean by stick around. WCS, Noel, Goodwin, and Poythress are all as good as gone when the year's done.

Yeah that's the problem. They won't stick around. They aren't near as good as last year's players. To have 1 or 2 stick around for another year would be good.

Not WCS, and maybe not Noel. But Goodwin and Poythress for sure are. So if the Harrison twins aren't complete studs like Davis and Wall then this will be a rinse and repeat type thing for UK.

All 4 are projected Top 15 picks. And no offense to any UK fans reading, but the players Cal recruits (and even his pitch) is about getting them to the NBA and not playing for UK.

this is a pretty ridiculous statement

do you think he is a great recruiter simply because he walks into kids houses with a smirk and half a thing of hair gel on? he's a great recruiter because he has developed a system, style of play, and culture that caters to one-and-done kids and helps them showcase their talents for the NBA. Of course he will struggle if he's got nothing but a bunch of young puss bags

Not at all. He plays a little out of control at times, but when he slows down you see the kind of stud he can and will be. He has gotten better in every game I've seen them play. By the time conference play rolls around he will be a major contributor.

A little biased being that I am a Kentucky fan but if you don't think these kids will be a force come march you're insane,Harrow really does need to quit being a puss because we need someone to run the show.

Cal is a horrible college basketball coach, no doubt, but he knows how to get kids in the nba and that is what matters to these kids (as it should)

Good college basketball coaches would run a much different offensive system with Kentucky's talent and go 30-3 every year. The fact that he losses as much as he does with that talent is kind of amazing. The offense is almost impossible to watch.
What he does with Wiltjer is a travesty. Guy should get 25+ a game easily, but the "system" Kentucky uses is about as bad of a set as you could design for a player like that. He is probably not a NBA player, but he could easily score 25 a game with his offensive skills if he was in a system that catered to moving without the ball.
Cal coaches kids to get good at an NBA type of game (Driving and scoring, man-to-man defense, pick and roll)

but if you look at his track record yeah he gets them to the nba but what has any of those guys done in the nba. Yeah they have all been drafted high but none of his guys have made any all star teams or really contributed on winning teams. I remember a couple years ago how jodie meeks came back to speak to some of the kids and he told them that he wished he stayed and told them they should stay as long as they can. Too bad the players dont look at the whole picture and stay to develop their skills to become better players and just look at receiving a quick paycheck.
