Anyone here like the dog tracks?

I went for the first time in florida on vacation one night and made about 150 from 2-5$ bets..Then when i got back i took a drive up to Wisconsin one night and made about another 100 from 2$ bets even after the beer n food..IDK why but I love going to the dog tracks, my dad owns a few race horses and I just don't like the horses as much..The dog tracks are nonstop action, races every 5 minutes and for some reason I can pick winners like a pro there...Just wondering if anyone else here likes the dogtracks cause i see its not too popular anymore..

I worked at the Black Hills track in Rapid City,South Dakota right out of high school for a season.I almost got to see the Secretariat of greyhounds,Downing have a match race there one year but got back out there a day late. The track I liked most which was the only tracks within a days drive of me was old SODRAC Park in North,Sioux City,South Dakota. The place had atmosphere and charm sort of like Wrigley or Fenway.Park Jefferson the horse track was right up the road and Dewayne Lucas and Bill Mott, hall of fame trainers got their start there. They used to pack people in on weeknights even where they needed traffic cops on the highway by the track. Then came legal casino gambling and at the same time, more and bigger dog and horse tracks all over. Then the animal cruelty thing was always a burden on the greyhound racing industry.I do have to admit that back in the late 70's I saw what common practice it was to put young healthy dogs down that were too slow.Hell, the difference between a fast and slow greyhound is a blink of the eye.I used to love SODRAC because way back when you they had trifecta $1 wheels and there were alot of dogs that shipped in.Most of the time when you keyed the dog that just shipped in,you won the wheel. When greyhound racing hit the skids,Gateway Computers put a massive world headquarters and plant on the track property and now they hit the skids.Funny how boom and bust cycles work.

Florida is about the last stronghold for greyhound racing in this country and it's not what it once was even there. The industry for the last 20 some years has really done a great job of never destroying dogs if they don't have to.I have had 5 adopted greyhounds and they all lived to be 12-15 years old. They make great pets and it's easy to fall into the trap of spoiling them and treating them better than humans.

Love greyhound racing. Too bad it got ruined by greedy ****s, track management and state govt. who show no respect for the gambler or the sport.

Yupp the only track close to me is about to shut down anytime now too, thanks to the new casino and the fact that they aren't paying anything to the winners.

In Florida they do ok, really is a numbers game and not too much reading the form. A lot of guys just play or follow number combos.

I have gone a couple of times to Wonderland here in MA and Lincoln Park in RI (now known as Twin River). It's just not exciting to me at all. If the pools had more money in them, I think people would be more into it. Just feels like it's for real degenerates looking to pass the day compared to other forms or racing or gambling.

I have been playing the dogs for about 35 years now.

I went to Sodrac Park in North Sioux City, SD. Like Brent said, Sodrac was a great place. There was nothing better going there on a Saturday Night. The place used to be packed. There used to be 20-25 busses bringing people in from Omaha, Sioux Falls and Kansas City. When Bluffs Run opened up, Sodrac went into the shitter.

I play Raynham in Boston and Palm Beach at the OTB every Sunday. Greyhound racing is a tough way to win consistantly. I have have cashed some real nice tickets through the years.

Raynham and Palm Beach are two of the better tracks that still have some money in the pools. Lincoln is owned by the same people who drove Mile High into the ground. I'm sure they do the same there.
Was at Bluffs Run a couple years ago. Track area looked run down and depressing, pools were tiny, casino looked new.

Hey boston. Do you ever go to Raynham? What is the feeling about them closing? I heard PETA had a really sleazy campaign before the election.

Raynham looks like a classic old track. I would love to get there before they close.

I have tried to bet Jacksonville. That is a very hard track for me to pick winners.

When I lived in Pa., I use to drive to Wheeling downs and play the dogs. I only played numbers. I played 2,3,6, tri box and 2,4, perfector and 5,7,- 5,8-6,8- quin. I hit lot of nice tris with this combo.

moved from daytona beach about 2 months ago. Lived quarter mile from the track. Was there every day. Track is brand new. You have your own private booth you can bet from and watch every race right there. They have 200 hd tvs the place is great. You can win so big bucks there. Place is always packed. Now i live outside Denver and the only place for me to go is havana park which is a otb that charges 3 bucks or araphoe park where i can bet 5 bucks and change the odds

i can say there are alot of old time employees who have been there many yrs that are upset at raynham.....the track is a great facility and yes there was a smear campaign....problem was nobody votes in this state...only the radicals......will lose more jobs etc etc......jacksonville is an outside track...7's and 8's come in often....but as for new england the industry is dead......the connecticut tracks plainfield and shoreline are done......seabrook cancelled thier live racing in new hampshire...even talks that suffolk downs horse track is folding next year.

Bluffs Run is doing ok because of the Horseshoe Casino.

I get a kick out of Bluffs. They don't give a shit about the racing aspect of their operation.

    They start at 4:00 everyday.

Their toteboard blew down last year and never replaced it. How many tracks have you heard of that do no have a toteboard showing the odds?

They run their programs very fast just get them over with.

A friend of mine owns some dogs at Bluffs and they really pay well for wins, as long as they are Iowa-Bred.

Hollywood doesn't exist anymore either, does it? Or is it the same as Flagler? And what the hell is MardiGras? They have like 5 maiden races a day.
