I understand most of you are living off of gambling (lol) and would scoff at the idea of throwing cards to pay rent.....

But ive got student loans/bills to pay and being a barback isnt cutting it. Could have waited for the proverbial barback--bartender switch but lets face it, only and ass get good money in that profession.

I know several poker dealers and they could refer me, no casino will hire you without taking a course...thats no problem.

There are pluses across the board.

More money, more free time, better sleep schedule

And the kicker Is that most of these poker dealers down here are degens who lose half their paycheck on bovada......I could probably triple my sports betting sources...find some local outs thats im jonesing for......and shit, maybe even take some bets myself.

This would be great for my *side* business too, more clientele.

I think its a no brainer move for me, what do u think?

You don't need the course, I dealt at Harrah's w/o taking the course...

Just need to pass the audition...

It's good money if your at the right outfit...

    Few hundo cash a night...

Toughest part is balancing the lifestyle of working and playing in the casino....

You're around the action non stop...

If you are in Miami, you are definitely in one of the best spot in the entire country to deal. I would argue that since they changed the laws a few years ago in Florida, it is better than Vegas. I have played thousands of hours in both places.

It would be better to take a course. It's hard to go in an teach yourself.
I also think get outside of Vegas...Vegas is a low pay source most rooms
    arent that great.
There is another option also go on tour and deal the circut either WSOP
or one of the lesser circuit. Your on the move but great money and lots
of hours. When I was younger I dealt a few WSOP in MS it was like 17 str days
no break but you make over 3k.

if you're going to spend all day at a poker table, you might as well be on the side with guaranteed profit.

not that i take my own advice...

Nothing wrong with being a poker dealer, would love to do it myself but my hands are too shaky and I'd miss deal at least once an orbit.

I would take the class also. From what I have gathered the market is fairly competitive for those jobs soo differentiating yourself from other applicants and improving your credentials is a good idea.

Perhaps unexpectedly, I would reccommend Magic City Casino in Miami. Not only is there alot of hot dealer ass there, but the girls I know there make more than or as much as any Casino in Miami, even after they share tips with the house.

I worked with the judges office at Flagler and Hollywood parimutuels when I was 18, so magic city and mardi gras would be my first choice too. Once I finish the course, im certain ill find work.

Ive been told on numerous occasions by people I respect that this move is ideal for me...just gotta pull the trigger.

Definitely not a bad profession if you like the work. The players in Hialeah are friendlier and tip much better than the places up north(Hard Rock/Gulfstream). I would hate the idea of giving the house a portion of the tips, but I know several girls who occassionally make 1k$+ on a good weekend night.

I seriuosly doubt you will earn anywhere close to $100k, more than likely you will earn in the range of 1/5 of that.

You are probably referring to broke places in shitty parts of the country. I specifically named several places as I believe Jay is in Miami.
It has slowed some, but they are still doing quite well.

Yes, they take out a percentage, believe it is around 25% at Magic City. Probably to pay all the suits who stand around wishing they could tap the dealers or at least make their salaries. The Jew family that owns the place are filthy rich, owned it for many years along with alot of property in the area, probably squeezing out every penny for themselves and their Fisher Island lifestyle.

Would you agree with my assessment of what they make? I know the better looking girls get good hours and average a little more than dudes, but unless I have been repeatedly lied to 100k +/- is what they make.

It is hilarious seeing the dealers at other casinos spewing their tip money all over the place, standing in front of the ATM.

Most of my poker dealer friends, on average, make 1000 a week...but they're working full time.
that's not 100k a year but if you combine my residual income with an average of let's say 800 a week starting off.. it's a major plus for me.

females make more in tips in everything.
i know female bartenders at major clubs down here who make about 500 bucks a night and work 4 nights a week.

they say that's the hardest part. throwing cards with efficiency and not flipping them over.....causing the rapture.

the other part is splitting pots, eyeing stack sizes...and being quick with math, but that i can handle

Alot of people definitely can't relate to the Miami Beach lifestyle. People wipe their asses with the kind of money Midwesterns line up to bust their asses for. I almost get jealous at how much even the service people make, but then I realize I don't even officially have a job.

the pay is not lousy, especially for what you do. the floor persons will handle any situations, most players like to get into arguments with them and not the dealers from my experiences.

Like anywhere else, there are people with a lot of cash, miami beach just like vegas, i would guess a lot of the people throwing cash around can't afford it.

So they "wipe their ass" with 10k and then 2 years later wonder why they don't have any money saved up...

Doubt it. An average 3 bedroom cost a million plus here. In Vegas you could own four mini mansions for that. Smart people with money want to live in a tropical paradise, not in the middle of the dessert in a slimey tourist town built around the service industries on the money of poorly informed gamblers.

I thought I would put my "2 cents" in....I am a poker dealer and part-time floorman at one of the bigger poker rooms in northern California and I make close to 100K a year....it's a career with many drawbacks however and not for everyone....I also know that working in other cardrooms like small ones in Nevada make considerably less than the amount we make here in Cali, but th cost of living here is pretty outrageous....and girls make a lot more than me...I got into dealing while in college at a small cardroom and worked my way up from there...most bigger cardrooms won't hire you unless you have at least 2-5 years of experience....if anyone every has interest in becoming a dealer or wants to know anything about it please feel free to ask....

Working in the gaming industry is not for everyone. As a dealer you are at the bottom of the totem pole within most company structures. In addition dealers have the social status equivalent of a dog catcher. It's not for people with self esteem issues as you can be subjected to some nasty verbal abuse at times. Some houses won't tolerate it but the majority will turn a blind eye to protect their business interest. While it may seem like a fun environment to work in it can be just as toxic as fun. Pay is variable. You can starve, you can earn six figures it all depends.
One point about the thought of recruiting for a side business. Don't! Keep it clean.
    G.L. in whatever you decide.

Hours are awful when you first start. Hard if you have a family. If you're not a degen now, they doesn't mean you will become one.
