Markets are obviously open to manipulation and intrade certainly has thin volume at times but it intrade had record volume this year and as a barometer Intrade has been on the money over the last 10 years.

In 2006 the market odds had the democrats retaking the senate when you had all these pundits on tv saying it wasnt going to happen. In 2008, they had Obama victorious; and were only wrong on two states. Most of the other markets I have been looking at havent been real keen on Romneys chances, Mitt is actually showing alot more life on intrade than he is on betfair.

OK that's fine so Intrade is predicting Obama and will be "right". But in terms of odds, it is very isolated and not a good read of the market. That is just fact if you're paying attention.

You can use predict wise which updates three markets (betfair,intrade,iem) and comes up with an average between betfair and intrade. I listened to more talk about gambling on the local npr station last week than I have ever heard on there in my life. All about prediction markets and intrade and elections. The Republicans really should get Christie in there.
