Steve Spurrier: Alabama could compete in the NFL

    http://profootballtalk.nbcsports.com...te-in-the-nfl/

“Alabama, gosh, they look like they could beat a couple of those NFL teams that I’ve watched on Sundays,” Spurrier said. “I think a lot of the oddsmakers out there, that usually know what’s going on, I’d guess Alabama would be favored by a little bit.”

Sure...they could compete...and they would get destroyed. Steve Spurrier is an idiot if he believes they could ever beat any NFL team. They could play 1000 games and they would never come close to winning.

we get this argument every other year or so

    it would be a debacle

    just from the physical standpoint.

but besides that. 55-65% of those guys starting for Alabama from a skills standpoint will NOT be playing on Sundays.

Normally, I would agree, like with the past USC teams. But this Bama team has a very close to NFL caliber line on both sides of the ball, which would give them a chance.

I would pound Bama +24 vs KC. KC is down right awful. Would give the advantage to Bama in a lot of positions...remember these arent high school kids. Other then KC they would not stand a chance.

The NFL should really take advantage of this. After all, Alabama prospects and football program want the spotlight for a game like this, and the NFL would rack up revenue like crazy.

I would be all over Bama +24. Would love to see what the books did with a Bama vs Texans line haha

Completely ridiculous - the Chiefs could name their score against Bama or any other college team thats ever suited up.

break down the o-line vs d-line matchups for both teams Canuck

who would be defending Dwayne Bowe for Bama?

    who's blocking Tama Hali?

K.C. would make them look like high school kids. Run them into the ground.

You take Alabama from last year w/Trent Richardson....give them Luck or RG3 vs Painter and the Colts last year...half of which were free agents.etc. Bama wins 3 or 4 out of 10 easy...maybe 5 or 6

We are talking about a real college team vs a real NFL team. Sure, put together the worst players in the NFL vs all of the best players in college and they could win...but that's meaningless.

Yeah right. 25-30 year old men in their prime arent losing to 19-20 year old kids, majority of which will never play on Sundays.

    that's about it.

Ya, that article was horrendous. "There is no chance for a college team, because, well, because I said so!"

Exactly, what's more is the one's that believe Alabama could compete with ANY NFL team. Spurrier knows it is BS and he likes to talk the BS. I am sure a media nut was asking Spurrier how strong Alabama was this year and he gave that quote and they ran with it.

Listen, I am one of the biggest Bama homers here, but I am not ignorant. Bama would lose BIG to any NFL team.

I will show my homerism.. You could take all of Alabama's 22 starters off right now and play with the others and they are still a top 10-15 team right now. Alabama would beat Louisville, Stanford, Oklahoma, and many other teams right now without ANY starters. But could still lose to LSU this weekend.

What I'm trying to say is....A perfect storm of a loaded college team w/a bunch of 1st rounders and an elite QB could hang with a NFL scrub team with a bunch of young guys on it as well. Is Curtis Painter still in the NFL? No way last years Colts put up more than 17 on last years Alabama. Hell Constanzo was Indys best lineman and he was a NFL rookie...only 1 year older than the Bama seniors.

Alabama has 5-10 pros some who will be backups..EVERY NFL team has 53..It would be a massacre..u have to remember...even some of these players on Sundays u see getting beat, whom u think suck were the best players on their respective college teams..come on now

I'm talking perfect storm..it could happen. Curtis Painter SUCKED at Purdue....couldn't understand why Indy ever thought he could start in the NFL. JaMarshmellow Russell....if a top 5 college team with a Luck or RG3 level QB played a team led by JaMarsh.....he'd prob trip over his own bling and fumble the game away

I'm an old fart and I barely remember this but the NFL Champion used to play a College All Star team in preseason every year from 1934-1976. The college kids won a few times...nothing after the leagues merged but several close ones

1969 Jets over the college kids 26-24
    1971 Baltimore 24-17
    1975 Steelers 21-14
