I still get a kick out of the story/joke he told Jerry on CICGC. I've retold it to a few gambling buddies and no one gets it, initially.

Joke is about a gambler complaining to his other gambling buddy about how bad his day has been.

(something like)

Gambler1 :[enters and sits down] How's it going today? Any luck?

Gambler2 : Oh it's been horrible. I lost $100 on the horses. Lost on the early and late afternoon football games. Lost on baseball. Missed 3 out 4 basketball games.

Gambler1 : Well there's a late hockey game about to start.

Gambler2: What? I don't know anything about hockey.

And that's it. You just deadpan the dialogue and end it.

The amount of times someone has looked at me like "...and...what...is that it?" Or said "I know, I don't follow or know anything about hockey either." And i have to explain it to them.

I took my handle from a track on the Norm MacDonald album Ridiculous. The Ballad Of Tex Hooper. One of the funniest fukking things I’ve ever heard. Lotta people think I’m from Texas. Nope, I just love Norm.

He was one of my favorite people. No offense to the OP but way more than an “SNL funnyman” from 25 years ago. The guy was a true genius. This one stings

The one they did with Tim Meadows as OJ…I’m not sure if Norm was involved in this or not, but he was diagramming a play John Madden style and when he was done it said “I DID IT”…that shit was so funny

Well I can see why that joke would flop 99% of the time.

You can't tell that joke unless you're Norm. It's all about delivery.
