#107Without significant practice, your average person would be lucky to throw a baseball over 50 mph. For trained players, the average pitching velocity ranges between 40-50 mph among young players around 9 or 10, between 55-75 mph between 10 and 17, to an average of 80 mph for 18-year-olds and above.Comment -

#109and for the record, that serve would hit the fukkin opponent...no way itd be a good serve
yea, you should be over 100 if you are just swinging as hard as you can without trying to get it in playComment -

#110Guys cut Doug some slack. It's his first day.
I'll still be your catcher if needed so I can frame the pitches. I'll take the Q train to Coney Island.Comment -

but look at your pitches compared to the 80s in archies videos....your ball is literally falling when it gets to the plate
theirs are still pretty much on a straight lineComment -

#116it's perspective differences
slow both Dougie video and Greinke Vids down to .25 speed and time with the stopwatch on your phone..
if we get a decent number of people to do that for 3 trials and get the avg, we'll have a good indicationComment -

#12110' to 15' directly behind the ball to get an accurate reading. There's an entire thread on another forum about these inaccurate readings. Gonna give them a call tomorrow & see what's up. If it turns out I only top out at 70 to 75 I'm fine with that but I just want an accurate reading.
but, i do know about inaccurate readings....i can cheat this thing to get my speed real high

Use your legs
In baseball your velocity is generated by your leg kick and drive. Get low.
In tennis, your service speed is generated by your arm speed, hit in front& down on the ball from its highest point.
You're 45 years old and w basic mechanics you will throw a baseball 75 miles per hour and serve a tennis ball into the mid 90s accuratelyComment -

#126Here's how I know I'll always have this enclosed area all to myself with nobody to bother me. Only way in & out is to slide in between this locked fence & I have yet to see anyone willing to do that.

If he stretches for 5 minutes prior and 5 minutes after, and just does fundamental motion and sticks to 2 seam fastballs w a overhead (not 3/4) delivery he's fine.
Hell, any mlb pitcher could throw 150 pitches p game and 300 inning p year w a 75% fastball regime and no quirky delivery method.
Tennis is the least risky and the easiest for him to rachet up the speed, he's close there as is.
Guys get the tennis elbow from low impact stringing on their racquet as they try to generate more spin from a uber- western style grip. Here, Doug is lucky he got the racquet in the proper hand I'm guessing, so we're not concerned w grip or ball rotation...just the arm speed and point of impactComment -

#131Man there is no way those throws are even close to 80 Doug you’re out of touch with reality bro. 50 seems right and also just having “basic mechanics” or whatever will not guarantee anyone throwing 75 you guys man my god you guys kill meComment -

#136Doug, wish I could see the ball coming out of your hand close up. Looks to me like you are letting it go too early. Also like fatty said get a little lower on your front leg as you drive toward the target. BaZ used to pitch super league as a kid. Played in tournaments all over Utah, Colorado, Nevada, and Wyoming. I am very curious to see where my speed would be. I still work on my mechanics daily during the warm months and have for decades.Comment -
