the reason the players are so penetrating stupid is that now you look at it, they've missed one paycheck and are about to miss another.....once they get to three paychecks they've basically lost all the money they've been holding out for....i was talking to stamkos and he said he doesnt see anything happening relatively soon. he just bought a new house here but doesn't see hockey happening.

Pretty annoyed of all this bs. Bettman and the players are ruining hockey right now, that's all they do. Well done guys. Of course there wasn't enough time to handle all this before....

This is pathetic. We need a new major sport, indoor soccer, indoor lacrosse, korfball, rollerball, baseketball, anything.

The league wants 50/50 split of revenues which results in a 12.3% pay cut for players.

The players want their current contracts paid in full which would mean 57% in year 1 dropping to 50% by year 6.

How about split the difference ?

Players take 6% pay cut and get to 50% by year 3.

Sign the fukin deal and send me my commission.

The New York Islanders will leave Long Island for Brooklyn, sharing the new Barclays Center with the Nets, league sources tell ESPN.
The team has scheduled a "major announcement" for 1 p.m. ET Wednesday. Commissioner Gary Bettman, mayor Michael Bloomberg, Brooklyn borough president Marty Markowitz, Islanders general manager Garth Snow and Barclays Center and Brooklyn Nets chief executive Brett Yormark will be in attendance.

The Islanders' lease at Nassau Coliseum expires in 2015, and the team has been trying to secure a new arena near the site for some time. Nassau County voters rejected a $400 million proposal for a new arena, funded by bonds, in August 2001.

The move to Brooklyn isn't without complications. Under current plans, Barclays Center would hold only 14,500 for hockey, and sources familiar with the facility were skeptical of the arena's long-term viability to be the home of an NHL franchise. At 15,004, Winnipeg's MTS Centre currently has the NHL's smallest capacity.
In an April interview with The Associated Press, Bettman sounded lukewarm about the idea of the Islanders moving to Brooklyn.

"Barclays, I suppose on some level, is an option," he said at the time.

The commissioner, however, has been consistent in his stance that the outdated Coliseum -- it was built in 1971 -- is no longer suitable for the NHL once the lease expires. The arena holds 16,234 but the Islanders' average attendance last season was 13,191.

Taking journalism never needed to make a flash intro for a site.

Flash is dead. No one wants it, no one likes it. Avoid it for websites. Bad for SEO.

An owner has supposedly said that they would strike this entire season offer the NHLPA something in the spring and if they say no the NHL will open up the doors for anyone wanting to come play during the training camps. Then 1/3 or 2/3 of the NHL players that denied the offer would go across and play in Europe/Russia etc. You know how bad that would be NHL revenues down the drain.

This would be great. I'd love to see the union busted and players come crawling back to play for half the pay. What matters is the name on the front of the jerseys. I don't see fans begging to see the games with NHL players in Europe. Who cares? Let them stay there. We have the World Juniors coming up.
Hell, I'd rather pay to watch Minor Midget AAA kids than guys like Wisnieuski and Grabovski who absurdly make $5M/yr.

Hockey players might be the dumbest in all professional sports. I knew the season was lost right away. I'm cheering for the owners, fukk the players. You want revenue sharing but are locking out the owners from earning money, from paying all the people who work at the games, and then turning around and playing overseas. Yeah, that's how you prove you want a partnership, you greedy fukks.

This pro owner talk is bull shit. The owners want to void the contracts they negotiated in good faith with the players. Players have already said they'll take a 50-50 split which is pretty much the norm theses days but they want to contracts they negotiated to stick.

If you had or have a contract for employment with your employer (not employment at will) which included an exceptionally prohibitive non-compete clause and your boss walked up to you and said "Hey you know that contract we signed that still has three years left? We're gonna tear it up, pay you 25% less but the non-compete clause is going to stick" Your response would be go fukk yourself.

Players aren't in the wrong. The issue is ther are a dozen teams that can spend much more than the current cap and drive up the salaries of players and just bury the guys that don't pan out (Rangers, Leafs, Philly etc.) There is a middle that can spend pretty much just what the cap is and then there are 5-10 teams that hemorage money every year and can barely afford to meet the cap floor on a yearly basis. (Phoenix, Tampa, NYI etc.) The strata between the teams is why we're still locked out. The league should either go to a soft cap system like the NBA or contract a couple teams.

What kind of job exists where the owner would give you 50/50 revenue sharing as an employee, pal? This is not something you should compare to the lives of everyday people. We're talking about millionaires who want all the profits with none of the inherited risk. Players who are okay milking the owners dry, costing people jobs, as long as they can ensure millions for themselves.

As for honouring contracts, it seems you forgot about Heatley demanding a trade out of Ottawa (and then saying he wouldn't play for Edmonton), Pronger out of Edmonton, and Nash out of Columbus, just to name a few. Players have been fukking owners over for a long time. Fukk them, greedy hypocritical, uneducated fukks.

I agree with this....These fukking jokers (ie - players) are not living in the real world....So big fukking deal.....Suter and Parise might only get say 90 mill instead of 98 mill ? Fukking spare me....these fukking jokers and their families are not only set for their lives but so are generations of their family if they aren't complete morons with their money....

You want to talk about the real world and contracts ? I used to be a contractor for Time Warner....I was also a home owner....Well when it came time to renew our contract with them Time Warner asked my company how much money we wanted this time around ? My company responded by saying just pay us the same you don't have to give us a raise (mind you cable rates are always going up).....Well Time Warner came back and laughed at my company and said "no really, how much to you want this time around?"

Well Time Warner ended up cutting our pay by almost 50% and as a result I lost my fukking house....So you can't compare these clowns living in fairy tale land with the real world...Cause none of they are surely going to lose their fukking houses....

It's been about a year and a half since they cut our pay...I invested everything I owned and then some into a food business that didn'd pan out, and I am currently working on finding another career....

So please don't try and compare these athletes with us people in the real world. Thank you.

If you want to make it somewhat more real for the players ban the fukers permanently and let them go over and finish their careers in russia or some other country where they don't speak the language.....They will be away from their family, maybe have to worry about if their plane will crash or not, and just be in a different culture....

Fuk them and the players association....Teach them a fukking lesson and ban them.....the league will recoup and be back on the same talent level in 5 to 10 years.

Now let's play some fukking hockey !

It is a touchy subject. You have to take into consideration that they players are making the owners money. Yes, just like every employee in every job does but there are contracts that were signed that need to be honored. You can't draft a contract and renig on it. It is contract for a reason. The players agreed to 50/50 which is more than fair. They are risking their lives, travelling non stop, making the owners money hand over fist. This is what they signed up for. There is no real happy median besides 50/50. The owners now are toying with fukkin egos. They want to show the players they are in charge. Without the owners the players make squat but without the players the owners make shit. Without the fans neither make anything. It is hard to compare an everyday job to the NHL issues. It is like apples to bowling balls.

As to the players in Europe, many would do well in Europe and many are considering staying. The advertising in Europe is ten fold to the USA/Canada. The players are skating advertisements. The problem with the players staying, well then you have the best players in the world playing in the KHL and the NHL is a sub par product. You can't win that way. No one will show up to watch amateurs playing "professional" hockey. The talent pool won't recuperate. It will continue to dominant and every talented player will play in the KHL not the NHL. Lose/Lose situation. They will work this out when egos are left at the door.

So when players demand trades, that's okay? Come on, pal. Players haven't been honouring contracts in professional sports for a long, long time. Could you imagine being the owner of NSH and having to honour inflated contracts to players who, while your business is locked out and loses money when it is running, are playing overseas and getting paid. Fukking travesty.
