    Zito vs Reds

    Bruce, 4-8 with 1 HR
    Frazier 1-2 with 1 HR
    Ludwick 5-18 with 1 HR
    Phillips 7-15
    Rolen 1-3
    Stubbs 4-8

    Votto not so hot 3-13

Bottomline is Zito will have to pitch and duck today

Really?!?! 8 at bats is enough to figure out if a batter sees a pitcher well or not

Take it for what its worth but I think Zito's number are decent at GABP.

Remember being in Vegas a few years ago and won a nice chunk on a game he pitched there.

Lot of new guys on Reds now since then but he might feel good pitching there.

Here's hoping the Reds close it out today... Not making a play, but as a Reds fan, have a lot of faith they can close it today.

    I dunno.

Never thought I'd see the day Zito got the nod over Lincecum in a playoff elimination game.
If Lincecum was to be used as a starter, Bochy would have to have been brave and given him game 2 at AT&T over Bumgarner.

At home, he may have been able to feed off the support from the crowd, which may have helped him pitch out of some tight jams which he has been getting into a lot this season. On the road in a playoff atmosphere and he may unravel if he allows a couple of early baserunners.

Tough decision for Bochy either way, but if a team has won its last 11 games with a specific starter, they'd be hopeful of making it 12 in a win or bust game.

No doubt Giants will need a huge amount of luck to win this game as they got last night with the error in the 10th. Either that or they need to remember to bring their bats when they come up to the plate as the offensive performance this series has been horrific, even by Giants standards of recent years.

    Go Giants.

Yeah, but its different in that Medlen was -160 against a pitcher with a 16-3 record a sub 3.00 ERA, whereas Zito is +120 with SF having won 11 straight of his starts going against Mike Leake, who finished the season 8-9 with a 4.50 ERA.

    Surely value on Giants here.

Plus, Zito's been around the block. He won't be fazed by the pressure.

I'm no Barry Zito fan -- just saying that given the number and the opposing pitcher, I'd be careful fading the Giants here.

I was about to lay money on the Reds until I read this thread. Good points on both sides. I now lean towards SF but I'll probably pass.

I really enjoy discussions like these.

Oh I have nothing on this game. I was just pointing out to the OP that starting Zito isn't the crazy notion he seems to think it is.

San Francisco has won the last eleven games in which Zito has started but they've dropped each of his last four outings against the Reds. Play here is the OVER 8

Leake isn't that great but he can hit...Frazier is 3-5 off Zito lifetime w/a hr and Navarro hits lefties well. I see the Giants getting atleast 2-3 off Leake within 5 innings. I like Over 8

Zito had a great season. He has regained his formed check the numbers he was 15-8 on the season and you know the Giants aren't a team that gives their pitchers run support.

Zito pitched well down the stretch. What other option is there? Lincecum? Guy was pretty bad this season.

The play is clearly to go Zito Game 4 and then Cain on full rest in Game 5.

Bringing back Cain on short rest doesn't help because the Giants need to win both games.

Very good call. I forgot to consider this as Mike Leake was named the opposing pitcher cause of my hectic schedule today. Congrats Giants ML and RL backers.

I still think the Reds win this easy if SF doesn't replace Zito with Linsecum. They better hope Matt Latos brings his A+ game because its going to be damn near impossible to beat Matt Cain twice.
