Ted Williams was the best hitter ever, I don't even think there's much of a question about it. His numbers were HOF-worthy even with the prime years of his life spent serving our country.

Some say Mays, some say Gehrig, some say Ruth, some say Ty Cobb, some say somebody else 25 times before Cabrera even becomes a thought.

Old timers tell stories of Smokey Joe Wood throwin over 100 mph for nine innings a game.

That's ridiculous. All sports have made changes to increase offense. In 1969 MLB lowered the mound to help hitters, pitchers were dominating. Bob Gibson had an ERA of 1.12 that year. As stated before, guys like Feller routinely hit 100 mph. If anything it's easier to hit today. Better equipment, hitter friendly ballparks, live baseballs, artificial turf. F*k, if Ruth, Gehrig, Aaron, etc. played in today's Yankee stadium they'd hit 100 home runs. And RBI's are a meaningless stat, totally dependent on your teammates ability to get on base. Cabrera's one of this generations great hitters, but a little perspective please.

I am not sure he is the best hitter of his generation yet. I'll still have to side with Albert. He has surpassed him at this time but not the overall body of work yet. Albert has had such huge numbers and much bigger moments in the ultimate spot light. Might I add he also has 2 rings? If that is worth anything to you. Can't forget about his 3 hr game in the world series just last year in Texas. That was huge! Miggy a very special hitter nontheless.

Josh's arm got you that ring, Miggy was awful in that WS. What did he hit? Like a buck sixty?
That game six was a pitching matchup for the ages, Andy threw his heart out and came up short.

    yer flat wrong...

Babe Ruth hit more HR's than the entire league...everyone was facing the same 'meatballs', how come nobody else could do it?

the bat technology was far worse too

If Miggy goes 0-4, Trout needs to go 4-4 to win batting title.
We have a triple crown winner fellas, unless Josh goes off.

Now, if Joey Bats doesn't get hurt, are we having this conversation today?

Tip of the cap to Miggy for not pulling a Reyes and taking the game (rest of the game) off.

Now pay attention here, Babe Ruth him right above Lou in the 3 hole, Ruth that season hit 46 homers also.
That means Ruth cleaned up the bases 46 times with homers before Lou even stepped in the box.
Not to mention the numerous times Ruth drove in runners with doubles and single.
184 RBI, in a league of 8, not 30, every major league starter Lou faced in 1931 belonged in the bigs, maybe 65 percent on the pitchers today belong in the majors.

Take a look at Gehrig's career, compare it to Miggy.
Makes Miggy look like a t-ball player.

Miggy had a monster season, yes, best hitter of all time? Hardly?
I change my vote for MVP from Trout to Miggy, but let's get off his rooster, OK, I can name 15 hitters who I can claim 'best of all time' before I go to baseball-reference.com and before I get to my second cup of coffee.
The dead ball era was over well before 1931.

Im mid 30's and Barry Bonds is hands down the best hitter I've ever seen in my lifetime. I would go with The Splinter for all time but Bonds in my lifetime.

Bonds being Bonds was a pure pull hitter who hit for power and average using just 35 to 50% of the field. Sad thing is Bonds was a good oppo hitter but it just wasnt his style. The game in someways was a joke to Bonds, he was just better than everyone. Bonds could have sprayed the ball every year and hit for close to .400 if he used all the field. Bonds just didnt give a f. He didnt care who knew he was going to pull the ball. Everyone knew, Bonds gets his pitch, Bonds pulls it and drives it.

    No Debate!

Great year for Miggy. Bet when he was signed as an undrafted free agent nobody ever thought he would get where he is now.

People can argue RBI's is a "luck" stat, but Miggy did hit .356 with RISP and .340 with runners on base which were both 5th in all of baseball.

Best hitter of all time is a stretch, but of his generation guess it's wait and see at this point since he is 3 years younger than Pujols.

He was the best hitter of all time imo. If you watch the video look at Bonds swing. It's one of prettiest things I've ever seen. Like Jordan's jumper. Bo Jackson running the football. Tyson's hook.

We're still in the Roids era, Buddy. They've never tested for Human Growth Hormone. EVERYBODY could be on it and we wouldn't know. HGH is way more potent then just regular roids like Testosterone and Decca. Cabrera is a big dude and he's gotten a lot bigger. I'm just saying...
