Why dont the yanks love soccer?

Honest question, do u guys find it boring?

It is the most watched sport in the world and no one will ever catch it.

Also why do you call it soccer when it was called football long before american football?

Soccer is slower tempo than most american sports. I think that's the reason.

Many uneducated. Too many people don't understand sports enough basically. Rather see high scoring and uneducated jerk offs run into each other at 20mph in full pads. Which is why hockey isn't popular, low scoring and no one understands.

It's bacically a game for young girls in the U.S.
Time clock moves s-l-o-w-l-y the wrong way.
Good game for the rest of the world ....
In the U.S. we like a fast-pace to our sports.

Baseball is nuanced and very boring to most philistines.

I could say the same thing about soccer, but I can see that basketball or ice hockey might be more action packed than soccer, but baseball will never be great.

One of the main factors that make a sport popular, is the media. Media can brainwash people to like a particular sport.

No class in the sport; too many players completely content diving and flopping about the field seemingly oblivious to the existence of instant replay. Fans already accept this embarrassment as "part of the game". I refuse to watch any sport where such behaviour is so wildly accepted.

    God bless.

World Cup, Euro Cup for me.

The rest don't care about. Club soccer is boring. Always the same teams at the top. No playoffs in the leagues.

Chicken or the egg.. We have not had any American superstars that we grew up watching when we were kids. Our parents did not pass the love of the sport down to us like baseball and football. The better question is why was it not more popular in our grandparents' or great grandparents' day? I only watch soccer when the US is playing in the World Cup, the same way that I only watch hockey when the US is playing in the Olympics.

Because in soccer a 2-1 final is considered a high scoring game.

Maybe they should make a goal worth 10 points.

21-14 nfl game is really 3-2.

I used to have the same stereotypical american opinion of "soccer" until I decided to just follow an EPL team for a season out of the blue. So I started watching a lot of Man U and Chelsea matches and became instantly hooked. The level of play in the EPL is so much higher than the boring MLS product and I feel most Americans are only familiar with mediocre play (US National Team, MLS).

Pick an EPL team to follow and watch a couple matches and if your a fan of sport you'll be a fan of the intensity and skill that's on display. A 1-0 game is like a brilliant pitchers duel or if you prefer a 'football' analogy it's like old school grind it out 3 yards and a cloud of dust football with both teams defensively stacked.

I have a bunch of friends that are into 'proper' football... I could care less if others aren't. I watched hockey until they canceled the season - and it wasn't popular at all. It still isn't all that popular.

Some people just don't 'get' the game, others just don't like it for whatever reason and try to justify it with lame things like 'oh I can't take the diving', but yet they turn on the NBA and watch Lebron look like a flopping soccer clown (heck, you see it more and more on NFL Sundays now). Flopping is smart. It looks shite, but it's smart if you draw a call. It really doesn't matter.

Baseball was such a huge part of the American culture for so long - you grew up reading the paper (well, some of us), or baseball cards and looking at statistics. And then American football took over (college and Pros). Most Americans didn't grow up kicking a soccer ball around or playing hockey in the street. I'm lucky I did. A lot of other people have, too. I don't know how other people in the world grow up, but I'm sure a lot of them just find or create something round and get a game of soccer going. I'm sure childhood has a lot to do with sporting preference. I love all sports - I like competition on the highest level. Some people just aren't interested.

To be fair, the soccer World Cup is the greatest event in the world - even better than the NCAAs. The ratings in the US are quite respectable. People want to watch the best - and if you put it on, people will watch. I think the HUGE issue is that, for example, EPL games are usually behind a paywall on TV (fox soccer channel, etc). If games were shown here MORE (even on delay), more would watch. I love that ESPN has the Saturday morning games, but I _always_ forget to watch them, even though I'm up and about. If the game had more access on TV, I'm sure it's popularity would grow FAST - especially if you could watch say at least 1/2 of a team's season. Hard to get emotionally tied to a team you never get to see. For me, ESPN has been great at putting Everton on this year, so US Men's Soccer Team fan dorks get to watch OUR BOY Timmy Howard play.

So, I'm from Boston, I hated soccer with a passion. Then, I moved to London for a few years, I got to know the game and the culture, and now it's my favorite sport. I feel sorry for my friends that never got a chance to understand how awesome the sport it. You can't just watch a game at 8am on ESPN2 to understand. You need to spend a season in and out of the pubs, following a club, and pounding awesome beers on the tube with a thousand other fans doing the same thing...

The other thing that kills soccer in the US....the MLS is completely unwatchable. No talent, completely unlikable marque players...
