Starlin Castro 7 year 60 Million dollar contract

    thoughts?

Personally I think they pulled the trigger 1 year too soon on this guy.

guy needs to get his head in the game and make the next step

    hope it works out

Castro is a talent at a position that is hard to keep top talent. Might as well ink Rizzo too, and then continue to burn the rest of the team to the ground.

he may very well end up being worth it.... could put up great numbers at a premium position and still coming into his prime...

but what is the rush? wait at least 1 or two arb years.....

guy has had off field issues and often makes bone headed air head mistakes...

You make a kid with questionable motivation filthy rich at 22.

I'm sure it'll work out just fine.

20/20 player that hits .300 and plays SS and only 22 years old

You'd be stupid not to overpay

I honestly think they got him cheap now. If they waited he will be much more expensive. He has been a bonehead in the field, but going to be a top #3 hitter at shortstop. He'll also hit for more power in the coming years and steals plenty of bases. Glad with this move and part of the bigger plan that is starting to take shape for the cubbies.

I would have waited till after year one of arbitration and make sure he stats hungry. Hopefully no more rapes this off season. As it is now guy isn't even a top ten performer at the SS position

Win win deal here....theo did the same thing in Boston with young homegrown talent...it's essentially a bet that Castro will continue to mature and develop...kids already shown ths ability at this level....it's a bet that this deal will look like a bargain down the road...and Castro now has the financial security of a guaranteed major league big boy deal...its been a practice my Epstein and other gms....it's a projection

If that outfielder they just drafted, and the one they signed, both develop somewhat quickly...the cubs will have a pretty interesting lineup 3 years down the road

I'm just comparing it in my head to the mccutchen deal as far as time frame and money. Pirates waited a little longer, and got him just in the nick of time before his price tag went way up
