Because every other post I see is "cant wait for football!" "fukk baseball im done till football" and so on and so on. I swear every poster in here crushes the books come nfl/ncaa time, havent been around here come football season so maybe most do excel at it but well see. Ill be sure to lookout for the ones midseason screaming for nba/nhl/whatever else to hurry up

Theres a reason limits are the highest in NFL

It's just been so long since last season that everyone feels they've learned from their mistakes. Plus it's nice to get beat by something new once in a while.

    Dont bet the NFL

Stick to small conference college football.

I'll give you a week 1 winner right here: Louisiana Tech +7 against Texas A&M

Don't bet it yet, because all the squares have not bet yet and will think "A&M = SEC, LA Tech = WAC, so A&M should roll", so I think LA Tech will get more points when all is said and done

But let's get this straight: Louisiana Tech returns everyone from their pretty good team last year, while A&M is in a period of transition and will probably be more focused on their SEC opener vs. Florida the next week. This is Louisiana Tech's super bowl, and is being played in their home state. LA Tech is a shoe in to win the WAC, so this game is their big deal for them since they have bigger fish to fry than winning the WAC.

Study and learn the smaller conference teams, this applies to college hoops as well.

More Week 1 picks involving smaller schools:

    Rice +16 vs. UCLA
South Alabama -6.5 against UT San Antonio
    Western Michigan +9 against Illinois
    Florida International +4.5 against Duke
    Wyoming +29.5 against Texas

All those are smart plays. That Wyoming pick is a lock, by the way. 29.5 points against a team with an incompetent offense?

Squares only focus on the big name teams

Wyoming is awful. Old friend of mine who went to my high school is RB for them....they'll get murdered game in and game out.

They went 8-5 last year with a freshman QB, and were competitive. Should be better this year. Defense was solid last year, offense was OK but will be stronger.

They have always played Texas well. In 2009 they led Texas at halftime, and in 2010 they were tied with Texas at the half.

Wyoming's defense is strong enough to keep Texas's terrible offense from scoring a lot of points. While Wyoming's offense won't do anything against the Texas D, I think they will be able to score once and maybe grab a few more points off of a turnover or special teams play.

This game has all the makings of a 28-10 Texas win. But Texas does not have the offense to cover 29.5 points, period.

    Duke sucks

The only reason they are favorites is because squares equate what conference a team is in with the ability of the team

But Florida International has better coaching and is more talented than Duke. They have back to back bowl appearances and are the class of the Sun Belt. It will be an upset if they can't beat Duke in Week 1 in my opinion. This is a Duke team that has lost to much worse teams in Week 1 in the past, such as Richmond.

Duke won at FIU last year. Duke also had a bunch of close losses in the ACC.

Does FIU still have that stud wide receiver from last season? He was a major part of FIU's success if I recall correctly.

Easy solution, don't bet Sunday, right? Impossible to lay off.

Yep, don't bet on the NFL

    Sucker sport to bet on

Stick to college football and thank me later

Will have to rethink my FIU/Duke pick, but both teams lost players from last year but I still think FIU is the better team

Texas A&M is not a good team! Don't fall for the media hype. SEC did not pick them because they are good, but because of their market.

They went 6-6 last year and lost many key players from that team. They are breaking in a new QB, new system, new everything. Playing a solid LA Tech team away from home is not a good place to be in when you are trying to install everything on the go.

Look at TCU vs. Baylor in Week 1 last year. While TCU was breaking in new players at every position, Baylor returned experience at every position. While TCU was more talented, it took 3 quarters for them to finally figure things out, and it wasn't enough and they lost.

A&M will be in the same situation here. They may be more talented, but they won't have the cohesion, execution, and unity that LA Tech will have. Since there are no preseason games in college football, A&M will be facing live competition other than themselves for the first time with their new system and personel. LA Tech will be picking up where they left off last year, playing extremely well in their bowl loss to TCU. I actually think LA Tech outplayed TCU in that bowl game last year.

Can anyone tell me how Boise St is #8? Lost Moore who was the winningest QB in history and Doug Martin. Just not the same team.

    They aren't

    I think they are #23

Boise State is a tough team to make of irght now. Don't make a play on that week 1 game vs. Michigan State.

Boise State is capable of winning it. I think Boise State is successful because of the system and culture of the program, not because of the players. So I think they will continue to roll with a new QB. But its a lot to ask in Week 1. If they were playing Michigan State in Week 3 or Week 4, I would feel better about playing Boise State. But not Week 1. Even when Kellen Moore beat Oregon as a freshman in 2008, that game was still in Week 4.
