He might play decent somewhere else but with his contract and how he is doing who the eff knows what to do with him? Season is over for the team anyhow

Going through the motions, just to cash that fat monthly check.
I love this game called baseball, deep passion for it, can't stand players like this.
    Despise them.
You got some 18 year old kid, just dying for a spot, and shit bums like Beckett just wasting space on a 40 man roster.

he wants out, what better way than to groove some fastballs, pitch so bad that they are forced to get rid of him

if bosox eat 70% of his salary, the bucs will trade them a A ball prospect

then ray searage will turn him around like he did with AJ Burnett, NL central hitting also a little easier

I am no Bobby V fan by any stretch, (love his sports bar in downtown Stamford though, fat ass 10 oz burgers for 7 bucks and they are prime beef too) but that dugout was dead set from jump street that they were not going to cooperate with him.

yeah, I agree, think that they brought in the wrong kind of guy, though.......if they(the players) do not get...a players manager, like a Ron Washington, they will just shut it down.......another evil, long term contracts, strangle these teams

This is the main problem with baseball. Once these guys (and the list is a mile long) sign the careeer payday they're done. You just can't get rid of them like other sports with these guaranteed contracts.

This why they didn't pay Ortiz. It pisses me off to listen to him cry he's not being appreciated for 14mil or so and McCutcheon a five tool player signs for like 8mil for 5. Tough job that DH.

I'm a sox fan and to see what has happened to him and the sox is heart brreaking.. The owners think that if they put this high priced team out on the field it will win.. well when u have high priced guys that dont work hard in their off time and believe they are as good as their $$ says then they wont perform.. Some of the highest paid athletes in the world work extra hard to be the best, Jordan, Ronaldo, Lebron, Messi, numerous others... these guys just dont give a shit because they got paid guaranteed money.. football players contracts are not guaranteed and they bust their asses.. I think its time for a change in baseball contracts.. And the iceing on the cake for red sox fans is we have lackey back next year too

Smoke, if I'm not mistaken he was borderline Cy Young consideration until late Aug/Sep of last year. I could be mistaken but I think if you look up the last 6 years or so he's on one season (minus Sept) and OFF the other.

Beckett had his career year in 2007, he went 20-7 rest of the numbers were not eye popping. Far from it. 3.27 ERA is very good, 1.14 WH/IP is solid, but when you put those numbers up against the career years his peers had (Maddux, Pedro, etc.) they are pedestrian like.
2007 the only thing he led the league in was wins, and a quick check shows he got over six runs a game in run support from the Sox that season. Second most out of any starter in the league that year, (Hughes on NYY is the same way) Sabathia for Cleveland had a better overall season in '07.
    http://espn.go.com/mlb/stats/pitchin...al/order/false

Beckett made a little of 6 million that year, than in '08 he gets a raise from 6 million to over 10, and pitches the most mediocre season in the history of mediocrity. 12-10 4ERA, total mediocrity across the board.
Since than he goes good season, horse crap season, good season, back and forth.

Now he's all pouty, "Tito is gone, no more beer and KFC, woe is me. I don't want Bobby V. he's tough, I am guaranteed 15.75 million this year, next year, and the year after that, I'll show them they never should have hired Valentine, I'll mail it in for the next three years...."

Some consider him an ace, I don't, put him on a lot of other teams he's a very good #2 or #3 pitcher, he's a barely middle of the pack ace. But gets treated and paid like one.

He played a little over 4 years in a DH less league to start his career, yet his career numbers are not great, yes they are good, but outside of '07 he was never mention in the top 8 in CY Young voting, ever.
His career ERA is 4, his WH/IP is good, not great.
Sox are stuck with a 47 million dollar pink elephant the next three years, he's considered 'baggage' makes way too much money, his best stuff left him 3 years ago, he's going to be 33

Nash you're way better with than I with the stats but the one's I'm looking at show a 13-7 record, 2.89 era and 1.03 whip for 2011 including an ABYSMAL Sept. I'm pretty sure he was top 8 in the AL Cy Young before Sept swoon if not top 5.

Can you pull his numbers after his last decent start in late Aug early Sept?

Yeah, he was great until the last 5 starts of the year, but when your team in tanking, and you are the ace, making ace money, you need to step up.
This is what he did in September, mind you even though the Sox with Beckett won the game against the Yanks in late August, he was not sharp.

He had two shots against the then terrible Orioles to pitch his team into the playoffs, he simply gagged.

Thx. To my point 12 ER in last 13 inn put a real dent in what otherwise was a good year.

Amazing how he seems to go one year on one OFF.
