latest on New Jersey legalizing sports gambling

    http://www.cbssports.com/general/sto...sports-betting

laughable part is, of course, violating integrity of the game

we all know that this governor is just trying to get revenue added to the state that's been going overseas

The Feds will get the ruling they want pretty quickly. This will die very fast, just as most of us predicted.

The sports leagues might get it shut down first. If not, the Feds find a judge who stops this.

But the integrity of the game is not jeopardized for bettors in Nevada. What a crock and what a joke of a crooked country.

heh, the law limiting sports betting to select states is unconstitutional
and yeah, the integrity of the game is not violated by vegas but it will be if nj gets sports betting?

Of course it's unconstitutional. Delaware already proved that.

But since when does the US government follow the law when they are on the wrong side?

Did the US ever make any payment in that WTO case they lost on online gambling?

I remember Delaware did the exact same thing Jersey is Doing Now.They tried to get full on sports betting then were taken to court by the sports leagues and the nfl and them won they then came to some sort of agreement and decieded on Parlay cards instead.I heard that the limits are very low so it is not the same as Vegas not even close.

Unfortunately, I tend to agree now. The FEDS and NFL are to powerful and they don't want it...

I suddenly have hope that NJ will succeed now that SBR's biggest loser says it can't happen. I only wish you'd make it a lock pick like OKC in the NBA Finals.

You guys need to understand that any time the feds or a league shut down the idea or bill for a state to overturn the gambling law its always been a senator or maybe a group of representatives trying to take this down. Never in the past has a state sponsored an act or lawsuit against the fact that they should be allowed to offer up sports wagering. Christie is making this a New Jersey issue. This isn't like a senator or two is trying to make a fuss. He is backing this as a state issue and that type of presence up against this would overturn the law inevitably in his favor.

    Exactly.

Now do you envision a sequel to President Kennedy vs Governor Wallace, circa 1960's segregation?

Gov. Christie allows the construction, staffing and advertising of NJ sportsbooks, under the protection of the NJ State Police.

Then upon the first sports wager being accepted, Obama has Posse Comitatus suspended, sends in the National Guard/ US Army with firefighter axes, and demolishes the physical customer access counters and window betting spaces in the actual sportsbook.

Maybe they use firehoses and German Shephards.

Certain states that are going bankrupt are going to legalize sportsbetting to gain $$$ from the taxes it would generate

    My Favorite parts

"And it doesn't acknowledge that there is illegal sports gambling going on in every state in America, as we speak. So why is this more injurious than illegal sports gambling to the operations of the league or the NCAA?"

Thank you Christie, takes a Rep to tell the truth. Almost their entire argument is based on a wink and nod that illegal booking doesn't exist...laughable man.

The leagues' lawsuit said that allowing sports gambling in New Jersey would threaten the "reputations and goodwill" between fans and teams. Damage to that bond, the lawsuit states, would cause irreversible damage to sports franchises.

So Man U isn't the most popular and most recognizable franchise in any sport on the face of the Earth? Terrible argument redux.

But you degens still don't see the big picture. Even if they legalize it, nothing will change. Who the fukk is going to go to a state run chop shop with 15 or 20 cents lines, at best, and crap lines? you think a government run book can survive with 10 cent lines? no fukking way!!! And how would private sector books survive an incredibly high tax rate? ain't gonna happen.

Your right Brock on that. I do think that will be the East Coast Vegas there. It sure cannot hurt their budget much either. I can see more states like Iowa, Louisiana, Deleware and Mississippi taking notice on this also to make more revenue for their states. It is a tax revenue issue in these states that can use it right now. I can easily see it within 5 to 10 years where sports gambling will be legal with casinos in Vegas able to do it online and just has to pay a license fee to able to do it. It sure can be a way to fund all of things that these politicians want to pass and get the country out of debt in the process. The sports leagues is going fight this but $$$ talks when the country is in the debt like it is so they are going to think about the $$$ they can make on tax revenue and these sports leagues will not be able to buy their way out of it and they will have to compromise on that one. I think poker and lottery is the first step of that happening and then all of other ones will follow suit.

    Good points everybody.

I did hear a rumor that even here in New Mexico, Indian casinos may try to push for legalized sports gambling.
But you guys are right, so much going against it.

But, Governor Christie is a character.
I hope the outcome isn't too predictable. His results can provide for a lot of future, interesting, banter.
