The Seahawks came away with a road victory by beating the Chicago Bears 23-17 in overtime.


The win is not surprising in the sense that the Seahawks are a good team. Throughout the season, they have proved they have one of the best defenses to go along with a pretty good run game behind Marshawn Lynch.


The surprise is that it is Seattle’s only second road win. They have dropped four of five before Sunday. While they are unbeaten on at home, their wings are clipped on the road. The only road win came against the struggling Carolina Panthers. If they are going to be taken seriously, they should have won against the Miami Dolphins or Detroit Lions.


With a reputation of being bad on the road, it is easy to expect them to lose against the NFC North leaders, Bears.


But Seattle got lucky. Yes, lucky. However, the luck was not any play on the field.


The Bears were hobbled by injuries. Return specialist Devin Hester was out. The O-Line was down to back-ups as Chris Spencer and Lance Louis were out. Earl Bennett and Chris Conte left the game earlier. Oh… and when the game went to overtime, Brian Urlacher was on the sideline.


In other words, there wasn’t a better time in the year for the Seahawks to go into Soldier Field.


From the initial kickoff, the Seahawks were pure talent, led by Rookie of the Year candidate, Russell Wilson. Wilson was simply a man on fire. He threw 293 yards and two touchdowns. He lead a 97 yard come-from-behind drive with minutes remaining. He ran for first downs, he took hits, he flat out befuddled the vaunted Bear defense. Joining him was Sidney Rice who made spectacular runs after catches to find the end-zone twice.


This hasn’t been the first time this year the Seahawks took advantage of some luck. The “Replacement Ref Monday Night Football’ game is infamous. The ‘Hawks were locking the Packers down and won with a bad call that went their way.


But isn’t a measure of luck required for a playoff run? Remember the Tuck rule. The Bears know that better than anyone. The 2001 Bears had sheer luck that border on miracles -- seriously, go count the number of hail mary victories.


On a grander scale, the Seahawks are having the schedule break their way. Right now they are holding onto the No. 6 spot. Seattle’s competition has a hard journey to overtake their standing. The Cowboys will have to go 3-1 against the Bengals, Steelers, Saints and Redskins (don’t bet on them). The Buccaneers, Saints and Rams will cannibalize themselves and probably need three wins. If the Bears limp out of the race, another the Seahawks luck themselves into some breathing space.


What does this all mean? Well, the Seahawks have proven they can win at home. They now have put the rest of the league that they can squeeze out a tough game on the road if necessary.


If things keep breaking their way, the Seahawks can take the Russell Wilson show on the road during the playoffs.

Seachickens lose twice to the Cardinals. Book it. Cards showed what paying top dollar for a backup QB does for you. Tavarius Jackson, Pete Carrol, and the Off Coordinator are garbage.

A lot of people are going to be surpised with the 49ers this year. Alex Smith's year was an outlier. Take the under on team wins. Gore will get hurt and miss games.
