Mike Sexton, a famous poker veteran and television commentator, said a prominent Los Angeles businessman he met at a private, high-stakes game offered to stake the full, $1 million One Drop buy-in. The investor also agreed to take only half of any winning jackpot.

That sounds like it would be a pretty bad deal for the businessman, regardless of how good Sexton is.

Absolutely terrible deal, Mike has to get 9th out of 60 of the best players in the world just to breakeven then only gets half of any winnings should he get 1st-8th, nice to have rich friends to blow a mil on a deal like this. 4 out of 5 times Sexton will lose a mil then the 5th time he wins a couple mil and they split

Must be an advertising deal or something

mike played high stakes cash with these people so he may have been up or down a lot and struck a deal.

yeah it's very strange that someone would make an offer like that and even the best poker player in the world should take that every time.

The guy's chances of getting his money back are not good.

One participant in one drop (who happens to finance my sisters business) cross booked 100% of one drop v Ivey. #alltimehero

So if Ivey comes first he wins 18M plus another 18M

Great to know this. If I miraculously won a satellite I think I would do the same thing. Any amateur who thinks they have a shot against that field deserves to lose.

I still think poker is 75% luck.

Jamie Gold certainly isn't a good poker player and he won the main event. I remember watching that one on TV and he had KK or AA and hit trips just about every hand it showed him.

Poker seems like 75% skill. A game like Blackjack would be more like 75% luck.

Yeah but where is he now? The pros we know still win tournaments and are relevant. Jamie Gold now has a D- poker room and tries to overcharge on poker sessions because hes busto.

You are right that a large percentage is luck but why would a regular joe want to risk a guaranteed $850 000? I doubt any intelligent poster at sbr would play in the tournament if they knew they could get 850k without any risk.

If you want I'll bet you all my points at EV odds a participant listed as pro will win this tournament. You saying that poker is 75% luck gives you great odds that a non-pro player could win. If you want to bet post your points here.

Just saw the craziest hand I've ever seen. Guy folded 88 face up on Js87s8sKs.

Wow I couldn't lay down Quads...only losing to one hand.

How does a guy fold there?

Can you imagine if this happened in SBR poker, and the guy flipped over 9/10 of spades.

The rigtards would go absolutely insane.
