I don't think they can. People are just being evacuated and running from the fire.

The wind is blowing hard too so it's a really fast moving fire

The forecast for Colorado Springs and much of the state doesn't look encouraging, said Barjenbruch."Things don't look like they are in a hurry to change here," he said.Meanwhile, a new fire in Boulder, northwest of Denver, prompted pre-evacuation notices to 2,300 phone numbers.Six other wildfires were active in the state, according to the Colorado Division of Emergency Management. The largest of the fires was the High Park Fire, which began June 9 and has now consumed 87,250 acres, the U.S. Forest Service said. It was 65% contained Tuesday. The total number of homes lost rose to 257.

I saw all the flames last night when I drove home, hopefully the flames stay west of the interstate.

With how dry it is out here, it could have been arson or just a spark that caught fire.

A customer of mine let me use their home in crestted butte this past November. We drove though Colorado city to get there and not sure where it was but somewhere close to the mountains the wind was like a hurricane.

    i live here in durango
those fires in colorado springs are out now about 2 weeks ago.
they had a smaller fire 20 miles away in mancos about a 9700 acre fire.
since those fires it has been raining pretty much everyday and some fire bans were lifted and the moisture in the ground returns to normall.
last week i went to telluride and i still saw snow on the sides of the mountains in july at fairly low elevation
