    Movement

Journal entry by Mindy McBride — 1 hour ago
Yes, I said the word movement and it is increasing. I mean baby steps but increasing! Andy continues to track with his eyes more as he is coming out of sedation. He wiggled his right thumb and now this morning his left fingers and a little twitching in his quads. We are hoping his oxygen stays stable so that he can complete his MRI of his head today.

His kidney (creatinine) numbers continue to decrease as well!! Things are moving in the right direction.

Andy was excited to see his brother, college friends and neighbor yesterday. The outpouring support has been amazing! We love you all and keep those positive vibes and prayers coming our way!

I hope you get well soon BigDay. We mess around a lot on here but when it comes to something serious, we're all here for each other. If you still have my number from back in the day, feel free to call me when you get better (which I know you will) if you ever need anything.

Hello #teamandy, this afternoon we received a diagnosis of West Nile. The team is going to run a confirmation test and we should hear in a couple days. We no longer will need an MRI now that we have this diagnosis. They also took away the Guillian Barre Syndrome diagnosis.

Currently there is not any medicine therapies available for the West Nile Virus. The team will be working on getting him stronger and with that strength will come building his muscle tone in his chest. Once he is able to build strength he will be able to be taken off the vent. People have been wondering and asking (including myself) when that will be. There isn't an answer for that, it all depends on how he progresses. The infectious disease doctor alluded to him being here a few more weeks (+) before he would even be stable enough to medically air transport him. We are taking one day at a time and being cheerleaders for the gains we have seen (wiggle toes on left foot, wiggle fingers, tracking with eyes, slight squeeze in hands). Andy is strong and determined and continues to fight and show us what he can do.

                            Dear God,
We are thankful for the answers you have provided today, although it does not provide a clear map of his healing progressions we trust in you and your guidance. Lord, please continue to give Andy the strength to make gains, to beat the odds that are up against him and shower the family with strength. In Jesus name, Amen

                                            It’s not really the virus
It’s how to treat the person’s immune system responds to the vector
                                            All signs are now positive
                                            Millions get a virus
                                            Some get a fever
Some have an overwhelming response to the vector
                                            No magic pill here
His immune reaction seems to be recovering
                                            All great for Big Day!!!

Wow, Bigday is really going to be hungry for a big steak when he gets his appetite back. We are blessed in todays world that medical technology can find a way to treat these incredibly rare things. It must be a big relief to know what the virus is and the best course of treatment to get better.
