Anthony Rizzo Cubs Debut and Prediction thread....

Hopefully this guy has a lot more success in line with his minor league numbers than what he did in SD during a cup of coffee last year.

Predictions here for his stats for the remainder of 2012

    I'm gonna say he hits .289 with 16 HR's in about 270 ab's. He'll OPS around .811

He good. Cubs suck. We (yes, I have no problem saying "we" when talking about my teams) need talent, and he is talent.

    Get rid of Soriano.

    if Rizzo pans out...

Castro, Rizzo are a good core to build around. Maybe throw Samaradzija in there... on the current 25.

I think Theo-Jesus in this seller's market be able to dump Soriano

and get very good return on guys like Dempster, Garza, Maholm, Marmol, Lahair...

might even be able to get rid of some of the rest of their middle aged utility roster guys like Barney, Stewart, Johnson or some Catching depth...

    Believe in Theous!

there are a full other prospects in the pipeline already

yeah I think 90% of gms/managers/theos would just say, kid has the entire damn season to go out there and sink or swim...

no reason to look over his shoulder, no reason to think he'll get benched or sent down... because sometimes that does more harm than good. If they have this much talent sooner or later they'll figure it out. And this kid has tons of success at AAA. He doesn't need to prove anything there, he needs to learn at the MLB level now.

and the Cubs have the Luxury of running him out there everyday, all year and maybe next year. Even if he is batting .091 with no extra base hits and 1 rbi after 200 abs

keep running him out there and let him make adjustments.

I think at the very least, he'll have a "bleh" season, hitting .225 with 5 hrs the rest of the way. and that's fine at this point.

the cubs can finish last with or without him, no matter how good he is...they'll finish last...

no matter how bad he is...they'll finish last

Cashner can throw 100? Maybe he'll never put it together, but when you can throw 100, you've got potential. Unless you're Kyle Farnsworth.

I missed that post the first read through the thread.

    For good reason, I guess.

I actually wanted Rizzo to stay in the minors the whole year. I didn't want him to be anywhere near this shit fest. It has had an adverse affect on Castro, IMO.

Cashner will be elite closer but you don't trade a hitting prospect for bullpen stupid trade

I think they shifted him from SP to RP too early. Starters are infinitely more valuable than relievers, so why shift him at like 22? Only one arm injury I believe.

Guys are usually shifted after 2-3 arm injuries.

Well they had already traded for Yonder Alonso so they figured he was blocked. I guess that was the best they could get. Maybe Cashner will be an elite closer. He has health red flags though.

No, he was terrible in the majors in his first callup. Happens though. Lots of great players struggled in the first stint. He wasn't quite ready. Should be ready now. He's pretty imposing at the plate. Bat looks very light like a twig in his hands. He whips it pretty good. Very quick hands and bat speed and legit power. Haven't figured out yet who he reminds me of.

If padres can stretch him to be a starter and he doesn't get hurt then padres made out cause he's got 3 developed pitches and throws gas

I never trust hitters coming out of the PCL, but Rizzo seems legit...

man, how to develop players through the minors and call them up into the majors is such an inexact science...

I mean if you have a great player and he has the wrong mental make up and he gets called up and shits the bed.... and has a slump like any good MLB will have in a career.... but it just so happens he is unlucky enough to START his career with that kind of slump, and maybe his BABIP shows he is extremely unlucky.... it can completely derail and undo a great talent...

I've seen it happen with a few with the Pirates.... Chad Hermanson in particular. Guy had scouts literally saying he was the next coming of Mickey Mantle and that he could "walk on water", dominated AAA and got called up and just sucked...

bounced around for years and years and never really got a chance to truly fail or succeed
