Nadal’s £241,000 watch stolen while he was winning title

When Rafael Nadal stormed to the French Open crown on Monday, he should have been enjoying one of the sweetest days of his life. Not only had he just won a record seventh title at Roland Garros, but in doing so he also ended a run of three consecutive Grand Slam final defeats at the hands of arch-rival Novak Djokovic. Yet even for megastars, life has a way of kicking you in the teeth when you least expect it: while the Mallorcan was finishing off his rain-delayed match, a thief was busy in his hotel room stealing his watch.
A watch, furthermore, that was worth an incredible £241,000 - that is £14,000 more than the average house costs in the UK.
The one-off Richard Mille timepiece (similar to the one pictured above) had been lent to Nadal for the duration of the tournament - presumably so that the 11-times Grand Slam champ could give the firm a bit of free publicity.
Nadal left it in his luxury hotel in Paris's swanky eighth arondissement, where the temptation proved too much.
The tennis player's parents discovered the theft on Tuesday, and with no sign of a forced entry police quickly decided it was an inside job. That hunch proved correct, with magnetic key card records leading them to a light-fingered barman. Under questioning the culprit cracked and led detectives to the spot beside a railway track where he'd hidden it.
No harm done, then - and the 26-year-old insists he won't start staying elsewhere.
"The French police did a good job," Nadal said.
"I have nothing (no grudge) to hold against the hotel. They have always treated me well when I have stayed there over the past eight years and I will come back next year."
Had the watch remained stolen, it wouldn't have hit Nadal too hard in the pocket - he won a cool £1.03 million for claiming the French.

I love watches, a passion of mine. Now I am sure the movement/crystal/etc are magnificent in this piece, but for christ sake, that is an absolute mess.

Functionality is a form of art.

It would take me quite a bit of time to read that watch.

    Great write up JJ. LOL.

Why would anyone wear a million dollars around their wrist unless they are in Monaco or someplace very, very secure. Someone could just chop your hand off.

    1 million dollar patek watch

    700,000 forsey watch

    625,000 girard watch

    1,000,000 ulysse watch

    1.8 million blancpain

I just looked that up magic. Incredible design. the weird thing about watches are that you could spend 500$ to 5 thousand for a watch and they would look as nice as all those pictures I printed for watches in the hundreds of thousands of dollars and up. People are really paying for stuff like diamonds, jewels, incredible crystal and designs. I will say this one is pretty incredible, Meteoris, its made up of meteors from space and has a planetarium of the solar system. LOL.

People with too much money but I bet Da Vinci would have owned one of them if they made them back in the Renaissance, if he could get a rich noble or king to pay for it.

I have two watches that I rarely wear.

One for casual use which was 80 dollars. People compliment me on it every time I wear it.

Second I have is a Michael Kors piece that was around 250. Wear with suite or shirt and tie only.

Other than that, I use my fukkin cell phone or the sun to tell time.

Novak Djokovic is a professional tennis player with the net worth of $36 million
Now 35.75 millions. Still can buy 143 more of those. Lost about 0.7% of his bankroll. Way under the amount of a decent bet.

That's an incredible piece , GREGM. I've always liked the style of Audemars over Rolex. Check out who's sponsored by Audemars on their website.

Rolex may have Federer, but Audemar's got .....LOL.

I'm 10 steps ahead of all ya.

I'm working on the patent of an incredible new watch. What we do is we take the lips off of some woman in Africa (w/ some big lips like two fat worms) and we attach those lips onto the watch. Inject those lips w/ living cells and the lips will live on as 2 big fat lips attached to your watch.

Now, what the fukk is that watch good for? Well, no, it won't talk shit to you. And it won't read you the time ghetto-style. Basically, anytime your watch is near your dick, those big fat lips will work like a magnet and suck your dick. Don't even have to pre-program the thing.

    The Big Lips Rolex 7000
(retails at $7,000) will be available in stores soon.

Tiny peckered individuals are not good fits for this watch. Ie, any wealthy people that Mel Gibson may have a beef with.
