#214IF they do not find him he is living which is good
I know people that hike there and easy to find with search teams
Another scenario he owes big money out and hiding which would be good news , with gamblers every scenario has to b be discussedComment -

#219At one point if rescuers don't find him some may have to face the reality that he may not want to be found.
The area he should be, while large and rugged, was a little predictable and search and rescue should have a leg up. Like I posted before, the alternatives to not wanting to be found are terrible; whether it be from disorientation, wild animals, or shady individuals.
Let's get a safe return for Dave.Comment -

#221Sad stuff.... even sadder see people here making assumptions while they dont know shit about the person... and when everything so recent then...

#222One of the reasons I left the SBR forums a few years ago -- but came back specifically when Malinsky migrated over here -- was that there seemed to be a fair amount of people here that were rude and maybe dense depending on your view, present company excluded I'm sure.
The fact of the matter is that in a wild area like that, even close to the trail, there are a huge number of nooks and crannies that someone could fall into and not be seen (partly because they wouldn't be moving) or even accessible to dogs smelling them out because the dogs couldn't get down there for random sniffing. And if they were unconscious or worse, they wouldn't hear searchers yelling and wouldn't be yelling themselves.
So, stow the idea that because he hasn't been found that he's not out there. All the other speculation about him right now is really an insult to him and his family.Comment -

#224LAS VEGAS - A desperate search continues for a man who disappeared in the Mt. Charleston area. It has been five days since 57-year-old David Malinsky went on a hike and never returned.
Malinsky was hiking the on or near the North Loop Trail around 3 p.m. on Saturday. He is a local sports handicapper, avid hiker, and photographer.
"People survive some of the most unbelievable situations in the world, and on the other end of the spectrum, people lose their lives over the smallest most ridiculous unbelievable things," said Tom Padden, Malinsky's friend. "So, it's a whole range of possibilities, and that's why not only are people not stopping but they're just coming out of the woodwork now."
Strangers, friends, and family are hoping for a miracle.
"Now we're really thinking outside of the box with every possibility that we can come up with," said Padden.
Malinsky hikes the North Loop Trail often. His car was found nearby. Search teams have been using drones to try to locate him.
"He wasn't really intending to do an extensive hike this time of the year," said Padden. "It's cold out here plus he was planning to be home with mom for dinner around four o'clock. So, right away all of us really knew something was wrong."
Malinsky's family has set up a Facebook page online called Find David Malinsky. His Go Fund Me page has already raised more than $12,000. You can click here to contribute.
"We still have no trace of him," said Fadden.
There will be another search for Malinsky Thursday morning, and it will last all day.
The group will meet at 7:45 a.m. at Harris Canyon and Kyle Canyon Roads. The search will go until 7:45 p.m.Comment -

There was obviously an unusual incident here, and like I said, if it isn't the case that he is hiding, then the alternatives are terrible.
He was on foot, that significantly narrows the possibilities and some of the rescuers are professional. To my knowledge, there are no clues.
He is a missing person, that is a sad and terrifying fact. To pray for is family while at the same time recognizing the multiple realities, some based on past precedent, is not an insult. Granted, those trying to figure out the "why's" of those realities may be going too far, to a disrespectful point, but it's definitely a big deal that he hasn't been found yet and opens up so many possibilities.
Here's to hoping for some clues or answers soon.

#231What he wrote is deep, but my reason for posting it and the other link, a woman he corresponded with,
Is that the language fits the mold of a person who would escape and make a new beginning.
Of course I have no idea if that is true or not, but...
Quote:
It is in taking a path beyond established targets that you begin the journey of yourself, a path whose first steps may appear as though on the way to a “Where”, but as you venture will almost magically turn into as much a “Who”, person and place becoming one. When you feel something inside of yourself growing with each step, and your developing senses appreciating what surrounds the path even more, then you are on the verge of the most important discovery you can make, and any notions of maps can be discarded. Your path has no end, for both you and Nature are constantly evolving, and it is in that trust of Nature that you can place yourself, and explore the labyrinths ahead filled with the joy of anticipation, instead of trepidation.

#232Anyone who finds it insulting that the possibility exists that this guy could’ve purposely “disappeared” is simply being dense. When someone disappears for 5 days, these kind of theories absolutely need to be explored. That is in no way disrespectful to anyone’s family, it’s simply being realistic.
To be honest, him wanting to vanish is one of the best case scenarios here. Certainly better than some of the alternatives. Use your heads.Comment -

We shouldn't even go into the gruesome things that could happen that would make someone so hard to find. Tripping and falling into a nook, while possible, is the best of those.Comment -

#237Am a correct that he was last seen 3pm Saturday afternoon and he was suppose to have dinner at his moms house at 4pm? Who last saw him? If he was to make it back to Vegas by 4pm, and he was last seen at 3pm, that doesn't give him much time to make dinner. How close was the sighting to his car?Comment -

#239In the last 100 years there have been 11 fatal mountain lion attacks in the whole US. The chances of one attacking a 6 foot tall man in an area dense in other more suitable prey like Mt Charleston are incredibly low.
Not to mention the S&R teams are well aware of den locations and have no doubt checked already.
Very disappointing the authorities are stopping the official search after today. Can only hope the gofundme has generated enough for the family to keep it going at least a few more days.Comment -
