Whenever Anybody Says "The Public is On This Side"

and they use that as a legitimate form of handicapping, you know that person doesn't have the slightest clue and has no business gambling

When will people understand that Vegas doesn't make money from beating the public? They make money by hitting around 50% over a very long term period and cleaning up on the juice

"Public on this side or that side" = means absolutely nothing

LOL - 400 favorite in baseball wouldn't happen except for maybe the 2001 Mariners playing the 2012 Cubs

What's your point? Betting on Halladay was very very profitable last year for the entire season except for maybe September (when the Phillies had everything wrapped up and stopped trying to win games)

so for example the public almost always betting overs right before the game starts means nothing?

it means nothing that a huge % of tv basketball totals are 1-2 points higher right before game time?

Someone would have to verify this, but I remember maybe in 2005 or 2006, Johan Santana was around -400 against the Washington Nationals. And if memory serves me correct, he lost 4-2. Also, I want to say that Randy Johnson was around -400 against Milwaukee in 2004 or 2005 and, predictably, he allowed like 8 runs in the first inning and the Brewers won the game easily. And when the Royals lost like 20+ in a row in 2007(?), the opposing team was over -300 many times.

Any one else remember those games?

For the record, whatever side the public is on does not mean anything. In fact, books freely give that information away.

What it does mean, for some games, you can usually find inflated lines, a point here or there.

Remember, the betting lines are constructed to beat the sharps and only the sharps....the "public" does not even register with sportsbooks.

Hard to even know what the public is anymore

You have guys betting $20 a game and are sharps..they just do not have bankroll to bet big

Yep, a square complaining about what a square is.

It's true that the public cannot see where the public money is going. Line movement and value movement can determine where public money is moving. If the sportsbooks/vegas do not move the lines and value, they would lose to the public in the long run.
