    Give me some poker advice.

It's been over a year. I've played thousands of hands in ring play. Last night guys were fighting each other to sit to my left, damn near a riot. Any advice to improve my game???

Ring games... John... be honest... the cards seem to come out totally different in Tourneys to Ring Games? I suck at Ring Games. Where other guys get EXTREMELY HOT. If you don't have 4 of a kind... GTFO of the hand. For real.

They are played differently. But yea, I do a lot better in tourneys. When I bluff guys tend to fold. In the ring games I constantly get sucked in and when I do win its usually small. Last night I was sitting with a mid pair and the river was the the 3rd club in a row, I bet $170 and Daneblazer called with a pair of queens. I'm thinking wtf?

check raise them with nothing a couple times and show when it works...

you play with the same fukks so they will remember it forever and never forget it...

don't be anyone's friend, the worst thing a card player can ever do...

matter of fact, tell the ones that give you the most trouble that you think they are shitty posters...

follow these simple steps and you will double your win rate...

This is just my opinion about your ring game, John: It's fine. I personally never know if you are strong or weak. If you want to improve on SBR (or any site for that matter) just take quick notes on the other players. Nothing big, just something where you know how they play. Some players in ring call pre flop a ton; some players call 80% of the flops holding junk; and some players only bet huge when they have a hand.

Other than that, you do pretty well.

Thanks BD. Shari has beat me up until today.

Good advice ifold. Special thanks to Roxy and Gumm.

I have noticed that ace & something small, like an A6 or K7 are costing me to stay for the flop. Even if an A or K hits on the flop, usually ends up being an expensive hand.

What do you guys do with a K7 suited or a A6 suited preflop if you are playing a mid spot on the table and the first player or second player makes a modest raise? And what if the modest raise is re raised a modest amount so on a 2/4 table you are looking at 12 to call?

John I think you looking for Magic Answers, I dont believe
any of us can give the advice you looking for, Players that
you play 1 day change things at times, I say stick with your
Game and at times play with a Gutt feeling that another Player
is bluffing and raise, there is quite a few Guys that like to bluff
with Shit, and when they get away with it they even show their
Hand, make a note of them and play them accordingly, GL

John, a baby could outplay me at a ring game so take this with a grain of salt. I'd give 2 pieces of advice. Once is serious but I wont tell you which.

    1) Don't draw out of me so frequently when we play heads up

    2) Don't call raises so often out of position when the cutoff, button etc bumps it. Take 50% of your calls and throw half of them in the muck. The other 25% put in a 3 bet.

    John,

One thing i've learned not to do in a ring game is continuation bet with a weak hand. Granted, some people are just calling the flop to bet the turn or the river, but they usually don't tend to lay down.

Also, don't be afraid to check raise, and don't be afraid to three bet.

The main piece of advice is to know your opponent (as mentioned above, take notes). Knowing whether they're tight/loose can go a long way when trying to bluff, or keep them in the pot with the nuts.

Decide what to do in the hand by a predetermined schedule according to the second hand of your watch. This would make you randomly check, call, raise, all in. These pros slumming it in here for points can't read you when you aren't thinking about it.

If you want my opinion, and I haven't played that much with you, the leak I've noticed is you can get transparent with your bets sometimes. That means you bet big when you have a great hands or bet weak when you whiff. Some times you don't extract enough value out of a hand because you aren't betting enough and will chase away those who would call a smaller bet by making a big bet or overbet. Outside of the huge amount of open limping, that's the one of the most consistent leaks you'll see on SBR. It's not all bad though...you are good at floating and will catch people c-betting without much of a hand (cough cough) and take it on the turn or river. IMO your game is more suited short handed than full ring. ...but what do I know?

    Donks.

Guys can't figure out John's testing his new program that auto-inserts all "advice" in his notes file for said "advising" players.

Guy has taken like 3k in chips from me. Not that I'm any good and that should be impressive, but my boats have run into his quads I think....27 times now? Guy doesn't need any "advice."

Actually spot on, especially the last sentence. I get a little low on patience that seems to be important on big tables.

I need a Rosetta Stone for Poker jargon.

Thanks Taddy. I appreciate that advice. I definitely miss play too many weak hands.
