Even libertarians admit that some government is needed as without a central governing authority, chaos would ensue very quickly.
However, it should NOT be the role of government to re-distribute wealth from the rich to the poor. Eliminate the 1000's upon 1000's of government programs that give people "free money" for which they are NOT entitled and consolidate all those governing authorities that overlap with each other. If this is achieved, then true bi-partisanship will emerge and our country can begin to get out of the massive deficit hole we currently find ourselves in.
What happened with all those rural post offices and the $11 BILLION cash infusion passed by the democratic party controlled Senate clearly shows that our country will NEVER stop with the reckless, wasteful government spending as long as liberal democrats have a say in the matter.
If we are ever going to turn things around in this country, then serious cuts are going to have to take place regarding government spending. If liberal democrats refuse to cut spending on items that are clearly wasteful (i.e. keeping all of these rural post offices open even though the Postal Service is bleeding red ink as far as the eye can see), then there is no hope of liberal democrats ever being fiscally responsible.
