Blue Jays sign Guerrero to minor league contract

The TORONTO BLUE JAYS have signed free agent VLADIMIR GUERRERO to a minor league contract. He will report to the Blue Jays extended spring training program in Dunedin, Florida.

GUERRERO, 37, spent the 2011 season with the Baltimore Orioles where he hit .290 with 13 home runs and 63 RBI in 145 games. The 6-3, 235 lb. right-handed hitter also collected 30 doubles and posted a .416 slugging percentage.

In his 16 year Major League career he has a .318 batting average with 477 doubles, 46 triples, 449 home runs and 1,496 runs batted in. The Nizao, Dominican Republic native is tied for 35th on the all-time home run list with Jeff Bagwell.

Jays just need to start stealing signs again. They don't need a broken down bouncer who used to be an all star outfielder.

I mean, most of the foreign players get free English tutors to help them learn English. Warrior just flat-out refused any English help.

Vladimir Guerrero Jr. is coming up. The Blue Jays plan to call him up for Friday. The No. 1 prospect will make his much-anticipated major league debut at the Rogers Centre against the Oakland A’s

kid was a beast last year

I remember he was hitting over .400 at AA for like 3 months and well over 200 abs

got injured or called up to AAA or both.

Blue Jays also have Biggio's kid and Dante Bichette's kid on the farm

makes ya feel old when so many young stars like Tatis jr, are 2nd generation guys and you grew up watching their dads

In terms of father to son and kids being like their dads, any opinion on the Johnson's?

You know, on second thought, maybe the Johnson's are exceptions to the rule as well.

Perhaps the apple didn't fall too far from the tree after all...

Not that there's anything wrong with that.

Who was the better fielder? Cecil or Prince?

I think there are a lot more Barry Bonds/Bobby Bonds examples where the son surpassed the dad

I like Cecil Fielder a lot better. Growing up as a kid... it was just fun watching Cecil on TV. Prince just seemed like a baby about everything.

Well, it's safe to say the Magic Johnson's son most certainly excelled at being gay, more so than Magic himself.

The son overtakes the father in that family.

I know he’s not already in the Baseball Hall of Fame like Vlad Guerrero Jr. is (.174, 0 HR, 0 RBI) but
check out the Red Sox rookie 3B/2B Michael Chavis.
    (.362, 6 HR, 13 RBI)

Vlad Guerrero Jr. hit a grounder 115.1 mph in the 1st inning tonight.

It's his 3rd batted ball 115.0+ mph this season, most in MLB.

Players behind him on that list, with 2 each: Mike Trout, Nelson Cruz, Joey Gallo, Pete Alonso

Cavan Biggio and Vladimir Guerrero Jr.

Never before have the sons of two hall of famers played in a big league game together. Until tonight. History in Toronto.
