So I read about how parlays are for suckers.

I like to disagree with that, using MLB as an example.

I am a heavy parlay player. Lets say you have a team like NYY with CC on the mound getting -240 at home etc. I'm not gonna lay the -240 juice but rather parlay it with a baseball pick of mine.

Do you understand where I'm coming from?

Many suckers use parlays, but if you play em in 2 teamers in MLB, you can make a profit.

Here's the catch, you still have to pick winners. One wrong and you lose the bet. Works for a seasoned bettor but a LOT of newbies (myself included) have the allure of small stake for huge profit adding in more than 2 teams. It's a cash grab for bookies.

Sensibly betting parlays is a good thing, betting to win huge with 5/6/7/8/26 teamers is just donating to your bookie

If you believe you have +ev bets then combining them into a parlay or round robin is +ev, but bankroll could be a problem waiting around for it to hit. However, if you believe laying -240 on the Yanks is -ev, combining it with other bets doesn't improve it. Laying a 4 on a craps table doesn't become a better bet by playing the pass line along with it.

Parlays are always a worse option than single plays unless you can parlay 2 or more correlated events, which is not easy to do.

You will never get reduced juice on parlays so it doesnt make any sense to play them. Also your win% goes down so does your expected growth.

Give me 2 +EV plays and I will always lay the majority on both single events and a small portion on a parlay. Use ganchrows kelly calculator in excel to help you make plays.

That is just a mindgame you are still laying -240, parlays are good if they are correlated or you need them to go over a betting limit, and a few books will give you 2.8/1 on parlays so that is actually better juice than a straight bet.

damn i was expecting a screenshot of a huge parlay win...

parlays are great when you win, stupid when you lose. Pinnacle only juices parlays -110 so it's not that bad for all you stuck up bettors

You will get killed in the long run by parlaying two heavy (ie big chalk) MLB faves. Guaranteed

I parlayed white sox and yanks today 100 to win 278. Only did that to supplement my bets that I already had. If you pick your spots you can make a nice profit.

If I would have made straight bets the last 3 days would have made good money, 3 days ago hit a 3 teamer parlay, last 2 days hit 2 out of 3 on both, Im addicted to parlays but I think straight bets way to go

long term yes, you will go in runs. like the 2h of last year, a whole bunch of favs won again and again.
sportsinsights did a great mlb preview on this showing, how betting against the public is very profitable in the mlb, by far the best sport to do it in.

    question for you guys.

is it is better to bet a 2 team ML parlay or 1 team straight giving up 1.5 runs?

and also I will throw in this question... is it better to do a 2 team RL parlay or a 4 team ML parlay?

2-team ML parlays are not for suckers (hate playing any parlay with more than 2 legs). along with -1 RL, they are the best way to get some juice out of a fave that you really like. Kershaw last night was a great example. no one wants to pay -210 for Kershaw, but you can parlay him with half the faves on the board and feel like you're getting strong value.

An absolute train wreck of a thread. No long term strategy, no sense of risk/reward and analysis of value.

Stuff born of lack of knowledge, low bankroll totals cheap thrills and addiction.

I had Kershaw and Hanson yesterday it paid 1.7 x
Kershaw was not ev, but i thought Hanson at -120 against
Saunders and a struggling d back team was good value.

Im not betting thousands a game...more like a few hundred...I'm up about 14 units so far in MLB season...I play a heavy chalk favorite who I don't like to lay the massive juice on with a regular play, like Mets -110.
