Maybe if 'bama went to the middle east and bowed to their leaders, the gas prices

Maybe if the Repubs would get over what ever their little problem is, they could help

'bama and the Dem's of all branches deserve to win this election, they have acted

If we had been smart and mobilised earlier, an SBR poster could've won this thing. This is a dinky donk election.

Seriously I'm going to get my overseas ballot and it's going to be a case of voting for yuk and yuk. At least one of you f'rs would've supported online gambling. What a bloody mess.

I dont wanna harp on a cartoon but I dont see what is wrong with it. The oil will go from Canada to the US and you can refine that oil and use it. Use it in as energy it. in the US. Or domestically.

    Seems reasonably to me.

    Lets move on

Except that the CEO of Valero (the company that will be refining the crude) has stated the big target markets for this refined oil are diesel to South America and Europe.

How will this help the price of gas again stateside???

I heard that also. That's screwed up. You guys need to have someone make sure that it stays in the US and is used to lower prices

And who would you recommend step in and force companies to only sell the end product domestically? Hugo Chavez?

It's easy to say this is about jobs or domestic energy, but in the end, it's about somewhat cheaper refining to sell elsewhere - that's it.

A congressman attempted to attach an amendment to the Keystone Pipeline vote that would have made approval conditional on the oil staying in the US, it got soundly defeated by the Republican House. Like I said before, its not domestic oil, and it won't be staying here, all you're getting out of the Keystone pipeline is a few thousand temporary construction jobs and a couple dozen perm jobs, mostly in Canada.

President Obama never said that(it sounds like you're attributing it to him as a pledge). There was never a public pledge of this, and I challenge you to find one(hint: you can't). This false quotation isn't even right, the projection was 8.5% and it came with heavy disclaimers about other economic conditions and it was made by Obama economic advisers in a report, never by the President himself in any speech that anyone has ever seen able to produce.

Who exactly are you claiming lied here? The $938 billion figure is the CBO estimate from the time. Should we just not trust the CBO, which is independent, to value bills? Also remember that the cost you are referring to is not the net cost, its the total cost. The cost figure you point to is actually associated with a decreased net cost over the original anticipated CBO estimate.

More intellectual dishonesty is always good though I guess...

As it should have been. Government meddling like that causes far more problems than solution.

The reason exporting is so attractive in the first place is because of our weak dollar. (which is itself a result of, you guessed it, excessive government meddling in Fed policy.)

This took me 1 second to find on Google, a Reuters article from July 2009:
DEMOCRATS CITE CBO REPORT TO BOLSTER HEALTH CARE CASE

    http://www.reuters.com/article/2009/...56M0HE20090727

Only the talking heads were taking the "independent" CBO at face value when the Obama administration and leadership of both chambers of Congress were on a full-court press to pass the health care bill.

    What a colossal waste.

    Keep enlightening us, Shad.

But the whole thing was a response to the cartoon calling it domestic oil. Which it isn't, whatever the merits of keeping the oil here, it wasn't going to stay here. I was specifically responding to the idea that it would stay here.

The dollar is actually stronger against the Euro today than it was in 2008. The yield for US treasuries is significantly lower today then it was four years ago, which I probably do have to tell you, means that the dollar is stronger than it was in 2008. In fact, the US government, just 2 months ago in February, was actually talking about auctioning off treasuries at negative interest because of such high demand for US treasuries(because US dollar based assets are considered extremely safe and the dollar strong).

I mean do you just parrot everything you hear no matter if its true or not?
