i always wonder why athletes would even bother being in a casino:
    1) it looks bad
    2) what can they possibly win that will mean anything, given their huge salaries

lou piniella was always in the race book here when the cubs were in town, he was throwing down a couple hundred a race but i wonder how winning could even be fun when you're sitting on millions

Sat at a BJ Table with Joe Horn once quite a few years ago.

Nothing outrageous, betting $50-$100 a hand. With his wife....he got up about $500 and left.

    Cool dude.

Yeah, maybe if you make $200/year.

More like the equivalent of $25-50/hand. In other words, perfectly reasonable either way.

i completely disagree with you d2bets.

you're looking at the bet as a % of income, i'm looking at it as a % of money "over the nut". a normal joe schmoe living paycheck to paycheck has about the same income as expenses every month.
let's be generous and say average joe has $100 more income than expenses in a month. betting $25/hand is betting 25% of his excess monthly income on every hand. some thrill there since you might not be able to pay a bill or two if you have a rough night.

whereas betting $500/hand for a guy making $3 million is probably way less than 1% of his excess monthly income. not much thrill there, even if you lose 20 hands in a row there's no chance of a repo man.

    mikey, you're being logical.

    gamblers aren't.

just like when guys who live in nice houses, drive nice cars, etc... try to sit there and hit online casinos for $10 a hand. It's not about the money. It's about thinking they're "winners"

Mike, not sure of you avg Joe example of $100 income over expenses every month. I'm fortunate to make above 6 figures, but not way more than that. But, I have at least $2-3K of income over expense every month when my wife's moderate salary is included.

I literally bumped into Charles Barkley at a bar in New Orleans during the Sugar Bowl years ago. Unfortunately he wasn't gambling, just prospecting for young white women i think.

No income is immune to the disease and the destruction it can do

you're so far above average its ridiculous

median household income in the us is 51,000 so you are more than twice that before even adding in your wife's salary

barkley might not be broke but he admitted to losing over $10 million. also he stiffed the wynn out of $400,000 before they took him to court over it

if he's not broke then why is he pimping himself out on commercials and doing tnt analysis? he doesn't seem to enjoy it one bit

I remember seeing Jimmy the Greek Snyder playing Pai Gow at the Barbarry Coast casino in 1997. He gambled everything away and owed thousands to loan sharks. This bastard used to bet 20k a game on football. Guy ruined his life after his racial slur on ESPN.

I stand corrected about it not being ESPN and was a racial comment.
