fight for Pacific Division title (LAK, PHX, SJS) and thus Home Ice Advantage in playoffs. Sabres and Caps battling for last playoff spot in East. Caps could get past Cats with two wins and win Southeast

As soon as you bet on them, they mean something.
    LOL

The Leafs generally are out of contention this point of the season & rarely play the spoiler.
T.B. would be my favourite pick tonight.

Unless one of the starting goalies post a shutout the Carolina/Montreal game is almost always over. At 5.5 I believe the over is still the favourite.

The Panthers havent covered in their last 5 games as the favourite & the home team is 6-0 in this particular match-up. Even though Washington is in 2nd in their division they are 2nd to Florida. I think Washington needs this game for playoff placement.

After winning 4 straight vs. the Pens the Rangers have now lost 3 straight to Pitt. Like the Wash/Fla game this is a match-up of the top two in their division.

Sabres & Flyers have played in 5 overs in their last 6 meetings. 3 of those games went to OT. If this game doesnt go to OT (I dont think it will) I have a hunch this will be an under. There is play-off importance to this game.

Win/NY Ils. I am sure this game doesnt have any play-off implications & again on a hunch I would play the over.

If I remember I'll be back with picks for the games after 7:00

There are a ton of games tonight, I think nearly 85% of all teams are in action today.

    Yes.

    Playoff positioning.

Be careful because tonight, teams that normally wouldn't win against certain opponents are going to because they're fighting for their lives and/or positioning.

For example, Philadelphia/BUffalo game. Buffalo is tied for the 8th and final playoff seed with Washington. They really need to win tonight or they could be out.

Philly is looking for home ice advantage by trying to capture the 4th playoff seed vs. Pittsburgh. So Philly wants to win the game as well.

However, Buffalo will be much more desperate as they are fighting for their playoff lives.

I expect Buffalo to win the game.

Not because the Flyers won't try, but because their spot in the playoffs is already guaranteed.

There is also another advantage for the Flyers if they lose tonight and their final game on saturday vs the Pens.

That is, if the New Jersey Devils win their final 2 and the Flyers lose their final 2, the Flyers drop to the 6th seed and the Devils move up to the 5th seed.

This is very advantageous to the Flyers.

    Why?

Because the NHL playoffs are all about matchups.

If the Flyers drop down to the 6th seed, they would be matched up with the Florida Panthers in the 1st round of the playoffs.

I would fully expect the Flyers to be done with Florida in the minimum 4 games. A sweep.

If the Flyers hold on to the 5th seed, however, we would be matched up with the penguins in the 1st round.

That would be a much tougher series than playing Florida would be.

So, I actually wouldn't mind if the Flyers lost these next 2 games, have the Devils move up to play the Penguins, and have a first round match-up with Florida.

So, playoff positioning is basically what these final games mean.

The sabres are missing their top two defenseman and without then have given up 5,4,5 in the last few games, I'm going over, Miller has been piss poor lately

Woah. Could the Flyers potentially sit players tonight? They would have such a better matchup going against Florida. I don't see it. Bryz will play and it seems like the Flyers want to go into playoffs with momentum. Just read some quotes and it seems they will be ready for a tough game tonight.

Line movement says Buffalo, but I don't see how you bet this game.

Boston Ottawa means nothing. I think they are both locked into 2nd and 7th and will play each other first round.

Don't think Philly is sitting anyone tonight who isn't injured. Depending on what happens tonight, they MAY against Pitt on the finale. They also will want to get Bryz back on track after the injury.

I would say the under is a decent play with Bryz and Miller both shutting the doors. You obviously have to take into account both defenses are beaten up a tonne though.

No clue who wins this, but my gut is with the other Flyers fan on Buffalo.

Rangers vs. Pitt, means nothing to Rangers and Pitt can clinch 4th and home ice in the 1st round with a win and not have to worry about final game of the year against Philly. Rangers have Biron in net.

So he is near the bottom and replacing one of the top 2 or 3 in the league. Over last 8 starts 3.1 goals per and only had save percentage .900 above or better twice.

If he was the starter he would be near the bottom and Lundqvist is near the top. He isn't a stiff, but it is a big drop from HL to Biron.

If NJ wins and Philly loses, could set up some nice tanking possibilities.

Maybe Ottawa will tank not to play the Bruins.

Philly would be stupid to try and keep #5 seed.

Buffalo exposed without Myers and Erhoff. Anyone that watched their last 2 games against Toronto know this.
