Iona didn't belong in. The committee screws some teams up every year.

    41 RPI

    Middle of the pack SoS
#1 in the nation in scoring
#1 in the nation in assists
#2 in the nation in FG pct.

    25 wins

They belong, I personally thought they would get one of those 'play in' games, but 41 RPI is the number that got Iona in

IMO if your going to take a regular season conference champion, go with the big boys, Washington.

They will be favored over BYU. That is for sure.

BYU is not good. Just looking at the numbers right now everything is saying IONA. The total in this game will be high, like 155-ish. Carlino is going to have to play out of his mind for BYU to win this game.

I still think they sent a terrible message by not letting Washington in. PAC-12 wasn't a great conference, but every year bigger conferences have down turns ... if you don't reward regular season champions, you should quit playing regular season games.

With that logic, the winner of the regular season MEAC should make it too?

I saw thay they were 5-3 against Top 100 RPI opponents. Highest RPI team they beat was St. Joes. They were in the Top 50 some weeks ago (not anymore I think).

Will someone tell me who BYU beat?

Gonzaga once and they played Gonzaga 3 times. 1-2 vs Gonzaga.

That is all they have. Their second best win is Oregon.

BYU has 1 win over a team in the tournament. They went 1-6 vs teams in the tournament.

Iona is 2-2 vs teams in the tournament. Wins over Loyola and Long Island, losses to Purdue and Loyola.

What was the best team they beat? St. Joseph's? St. Joseph's wasn't even considered for the NCAA.

Talking about "power" conferences of course dude, don't be silly. Apparently the MAAC [Iona] was worth more than the PAC-12 and UW.

According to the CBS guys, the lesson is to schedule stronger.

Iona didn't, and they got in anyway. Their best wins were, I guess, over Maryland and St. Joseph's. Both were home games, and neither one of those teams was even considered for the NCAA tournament.

Iona lost their second game in the MAAC tournament to Fairfield, a poor team which then went on to lose to Loyola Maryland.

I think there are at least five teams that didn't get in that should've made it over Iona.

    Yes, 25 of them.

For every one argument you make about Drexel, I can make three to counter your one.

    1. Much tougher out of conference SoS.
    2. Better RPI
    3. Much tougher overall SoS.

    Your turn.

Watching that Pac-12 championship game, Colorado went the last 12 or so minutes scoring 4 points and still won... That might not be so far off. Pac-12 blows.

Iona was lucky to even be in the conversation. Almost lost to Western Michigan, almost lost to Vermont, almost lost to Denver... any of those losses takes them out of the discussion.

Drexel did more in a better conference. That is what matters to me. CAA>MAAC.

The committee ALWAYS takes into consideration injuries... early on, Drexel was missing 2 starters, including one of their better players, and that explains their early season struggles.

When they got healthy, they kept winning.

There is no question Drexel is the better basketball team right now.

Drexel won the CAA -- a much better conference than the MAAC. They had taken 18 straight before being edged by VCU in the championship round of their conference tournament, and had a better overall record than Iona by two games.

Iona played a tougher non-conference schedule on paper, but did they win any key games? They beat Maryland at Maryland when they were a mess in the early season and Nevada at home, who got handled by Louisiana Tech in its conference tournament. Big deal. I'd like to see what Iona would've done having faced squads like VCU, George Mason and even Georgia State and Old Dominion on a regular basis.

Iona beat St. Joseph's in DOUBLE OVERTIME and it was a home game. That's not even an impressive win.

A one-point loss to Purdue = win? What?
