#2I'm going to have to vote bad, even though I understand the thought behind it. John Stockton is my favorite basketball player of alltime, and since the Jazz dynasty (not exactly the right word since they never won it all, but you can understand what I mean) has faded away, I have not watched the NBA with any interest, unless I had money on a game. I felt these Jazz teams and other players of that time were the epitome of class, particularly in how they presented themselves.
I like the idea of having them dress in an acceptable manner, but feel they sprung it too quickly on the players. The thought of players looking like professionals is nice, but these people are so distorted that they feel the need to rebel against anything that isn't exactly what they want.Comment -

#3The NBA is a business and the athletes should dress like it. You don't see baseball and football players dressing like thugs.Comment -

#4The NBA is indeed a business. In order to survive, they need the income of a demographic that is not currently appealed to by the league. The further the league is allowed to spiral into Hip Hop Nation, the less marketable and profitable it becomes to paying customers.
I don't mean this as a denegration of the 'culture' as a whole. But consider that not many 14-year-old MTV disciples are buying season tickets and luxury suites.Comment -

#5I never liked dress codes. But if I ever wanted to see one somewhere, it would be NBA. I completely agree with Razz. John Stockton is also my all time favourite and I still cheer for the Jazz. And yes, the class mostly gone. The players' comments on some interviews I read are completely out of this planet. So stupid that it is scary. NBA is slipping badly.
I wish they would show college hoops here in Finland. I'll never forget the intensity and effort that the Duke team back in Mike [insertlongpolishname] days put in the game. Those guys played with emotion. So much better than the money spoiled NBA guys floating around on the floor.

#6I always found it strange why grown men with all that money dress like 14 year old wannabe gangbangers. C'mon, don't they have something better to do with all that money? Grow up...
I like the dress code. If high-school basketball players are required to wear tie and jacket, why not the pros?

#10Dress Code is a good idea.......NBA Players are doing a job......just like any other job there is a dress code....Why are the NBA players crying about it...get a life you're getting paid millions and they complain because they cant dress how they want to dress. If you dont like it, LEAVE!Comment -

#13I think the dress code is a bad idea. Just because they're having huge bankrolls doesn't mean they should all be inclined to dress in a tie and suit. Lots of black guys like that "rap video" styled clothing. They wear what they think is fashionable and cool. Just my 2 centsComment -

That's all well and good, but Stern has to market his product to the people who are buying tickets, not the players.Comment -

Talk about cheesey, why in the HELL do baseball managers where a uniform like the players do?!?!?! When Pedro threw down that 80-year-old Yankee manager a couple years ago, it was hilarious and sad at the same time. Put THESE guys in suits for Christ sakes.
As for the NBA. It's too little too late for me. The NBA would really have to do something magical to bring me back to the game. I didn't even watch the finals this spring after watching a little of the playoffs. The thug-wannabe, gold chain wearing, hip hop rappers can do the NBA thing. It has nothing to do with me, anymore. Thugs in a suit are still thugs.Comment -

#24Tough call. With high school and college players I think a dress code is likely a good idea as promotes unity and sense of team thinking before even get on floor. I guess the same could be said of NBA, but part of the appeal of the NBA is all the individual personalities. This takes away from their ability to express a different fashion sense, so am actually surprised to see the NBA do it, my actually work against their past individual focus.Comment
