One of the most comon mistakes of sports fans is, that they have an advantage by knowing the sport(s) they are betting.
While it is indeed true, that knowing the sport AND the market is an advantage, it is also very true that a lot of people end up flat broke because they have no idea of risk. They don't know what risk means, they don't know how to calculate risk etc.
Understanding of risk is the key.
There are traders that would not be able to find the country on the map that belongs to the currency they are successfully dealing with.
FC Midtjylland (Denmark) is a nice example, with a manager who is a former trader. He brought algorithms and mathematics into the club and now they won their first league title.

I don't know if the information was directed specifically at you Rudy. As our local Players Advocate you should know, Sports Bettors of all different levels and experience use our site. In fact there was some information in this thread that I was unaware of, and I'm currently applying to some of my handicapping methods. Sometimes the clown show comes in the form of posts that are sometimes condescending, pretentious and overly critical.

The concepts here can be used across nearly all stats across nearly all sports.

I should reference this thread more often and, perhaps by not doing so, I have let some posters down.

When comparing opposing teams I'm assuming your not just looking at the total yards a team gains and allows and vice versa but also looking at rushing totals yds gained and allowed and average per play, total passing yds gained and allowed and average per play, chunk plays/Chunk plays allowed per game, third down success rate, defense vs third and 5+, penalty yardage, completion percentage based on 10 yards and fewer, 15-30 yds, 30 + yds, and turnovers correct?

Of course, this was just one example for the post.

The first lesson is in conclusions and behavior. I’ve mentioned in the past that there are as many ways to handicap as there are handicappers and bettors, when comparing teams, use all kinds of stats. When bettors use means when comparing teams, get false evidence, then fail, they often conclude that the statistics used were the wrong ones.

They move on to other angles, other stats, and then continue to use means and continue to fail. What they don’t realize is that it’s often not the stats used that is the problem, it’s the use of means. This cycle can go on for as long as a bettor lets it...

The thread isn't about the stats or any specific stat, that is just an example.

those that congratulate the post, well bad news for you
