    Who pays the juice?

I hear a lot of bettors talk about losers paying juice.

I always thought the winner pays the juice.

    What's the deal here?

You pay the juice either way....if you win you only get paid $100 if you bet $110.....and if you lose you still lose $110

You only pay the juice if you don't win the bet...pushes are just that (no juice paid) but risk vig for the privilege of making the bet each time you take -101 odds or greater...

How does the winner pay the juice? The winner doesnt pay anything.

Because either way you are betting $110....if you win you only win 100 (so 10 is juice) and if you lose you don't get anything. I guess technically the winner pays the juice, but really the book will get it either way

Some math geeks have posted over the years how winners pay the juice

    short version : losers risk 110 & lose 110 ; winners risk 110 get paid 100

Think about it this way, if the spread is right, there is a 50/50 chance of a bettor being on the right side. When you take the bet you bet $110 (or $105 or whatever depending on the line) but only get a chance to win $100. If it were fair, you'd be $100 to get $100. That $10 is "paid" when you take the bet, winning or losing is irrelevant.

Why must you win more than 50% to come out ahead?

Me and friend bet 11 on a game. Winner gets 11, loser pays 11. Bookie got involved and charged 1. Where did the 1 come from?

Your missing the point....if you and your friend make a bet then one of you has to be the bookie....you can't have two people making a bet on a game AND have a bookie

That's exactly what happens. When 2 people don't know a person to bet, they enlist a bookie to make the transaction happen. Winner pays a 'finders fee'.
