    Paterno-Penn State football was boring &generic.3 yards and a cloud of dust

    Even the Penn State jerseys and helmets spelled out boring.For most of Paterno's career the offensive game plans were void of imagination and not on the cutting edge of keeping up with other big schools successful offensive scheming trends.Bo Schembeckler at Michigan was another lifer with one team who stymied offenses and got them in vanilla flavored generic ruts.

    Yeah, the 2006 team with Clark and Robinson that won the Orange Bowl was exactly as you described.



    I'm far from a Penn State backer or Paterno defender, but it seems like everything you post is ignorant. And If you don't like Penn State's helmets and uniforms, you don't like true football.

    they had a window of opportunity in the previous decade to get one more national championship. Got some great recruits that were near the top in the country, but they didn't quite pan out. guys like D. Williams and Anthony Morelli. Just missed on getting Terrelle Prior.

    but they had a receiving corp at one time with at least 3 nfl players and PSU record breakers with Williams, Butler, and Norwood. Royster was another pro and record breaker.

    When they had Michael Robinson at QB, they were 1 second from being undefeated, thanks to some controversy in Michigan.

    but all in all, PSU stuck to their guns. Defense first (linebacker U) and run the Ball (tons of RB's in their history)

    put PSU Alum successful Pro LB's and RB's up against any school in the past 40 years

    He ran a pro style offense. Drop back QB, power run game, and huge offensive line.

    What is said of the OP, can be said of Alabama, LSU, USC, and all other pro style offenses. They rely on having better players @ each position, so they do not have to run any type of gimmicks to consistently get yards.

    very interesting, never thought about that! But makes sense, think about it. This guy played at Brown when no sports were on TV most likely. He started at Penn when they had less than half the stadium size. It was all about winning, and not looking pretty. Plus having actual student athletes
