Do You Think These Internet Bills Will Pass On Jan 24th?

PIPA & SOPA? Google and Wiki set to blackout here shortly in protest. From what Im reading these bills will allow the Government to censor the internet like China does. Is this possible in the United States of America?

Well, it sounds like the 1st amendment will be seriously violated.

I may not be clear about this, but it sounds like the US govt is about to take away the 1st amendment, thus taking away the #1 freedom we were found on, next to religion.

    Am I not getting something?

I buy my prescription drugs through a Canadian pharmacy, and SOPA has buried within it legislation to outlaw this practice, kind of like the Port Security/UIGEA fiasco. I save $200 a month doing this. Why does my government hate everything I do?

The same people that advocate smaller government in the U.S. are writing bills to play nanny and police and censor the Internet.

You can't make this shit up.

If they pass, I'm out. That's the last straw.

John or Bill... how hard is it to get a v.i.sa in CR?

It probably won't pass in it's current form but it is alarming/saddening (even for me as a non-American) just how little is being said about this.

I guess as long as Jersey Shore and American Idol are on TV, very few really give a cr@p anymore.

It is the monied interests in Hollywood combined with a government who never met a restrictive set of legislation they did not like.

This is not Rep Vs. Dem, we need to take note of every person that votes for these and target them for elimination (through voting of course).

I have been reading a lot on this bill (mainly through one of my favorite sites, reddit, which happens to be down today in protest), and the chances of this bill passing are about 50/50. Obama has said he would veto the bill if it comes to his desk in its current form, but he also said that he would veto NDAA and we all know how that turned out...

If this passes i will no longer have a use for a computer anymore. It will be in my basement stored away with all my old walkmans, tape players, playstations, and nintendos. What good is a computer if they outlaw all the free porn sites?

Even if this passes, it won't stop a lot of people from getting around it. There's already a Firefox add-on called DeSOPA that a developer has created which will allow the user to connect to an infringed website via the IP address rather than the domain site itself. The government is stupid if they think that the passage of this type of bill is going to stop anything. Most of them have no idea as to the ramifications of this bill if it ends up getting passed. They are getting pressured by media companies trying to spearhead The Pirate Bay, when the most visited sites, like Google, Wikipedia, and especially YouTube could easily get shut down, as well. Idiots.

Right, that's the big concern is they will slip in parts of it to the Protect the Children Act or some unrelated bill about farming.

If these pass they can legally force ISPs, and there are only a handful of major ones, to block or confiscate domains and go after webmasters for linking to a site they deem inappropriate without due process. They can force search engines to de-index results because they want to make it difficult to find sites... kind of like deleting maps to the global internet so citizens can't find it even though it's there. These bills would change the internet.

listen u liberal socialist atheist fuk

the FOUNDING FATHERS of this country founded it on CHRISTIAN principles of FREEDOM and small government and NO HANDOUTS and CAPITALISM and NO REGULATIONS and COMMON SENSE and STRONG DEFENSE which is ALL EXPLAINED IN THE CONSTITUTION

Sarah Palin, Newt Gingrich, George Bush, Herman Cain, Robert Goodlatte, Rush Limbaugh, Sean Hannity, Bill O'Reilly, John Boehner, John Kyl, and many others INCLUDING LAMAR SMITH of Texas who introduced THIS BILL all understand these concepts

these are concepts that brain dead brainwashed libtards cannot understand and therefore it is a waste of my time to try to explain them to you

but dont worry your handouts will probably continue for at least a little while longer so enjoy them while you can

if the founding fathers could look at this country today they would be SICK and its libtards like you that they would want to throw in jail for treason without a trial for trying to RUIN our country

Most of the Congressman who sponsored these bills have abandoned them in the last 48 hours so there is very little chance they will get pushed through in any form in the very near future.

Probably re-worded and introduced in a few months in an attempt to sneak them through...too much uproar over this issue currently.

They will probably create one of those protect the children bills and sneak it in with that since you can never vote against the kids.
