Two-time NL Cy Young Award winner asking for $21.5 Million

SAN FRANCISCO (AP)—Giants ace Tim Lincecum asked for $21.5 million in salary arbitration Tuesday and was offered $17 million by the club.

The two-time NL Cy Young Award winner’s request neared the record amount sought in arbitration. Houston pitcher Roger Clemens asked for $22 million in 2005.

San Francisco’s offer was the highest in arbitration history, topping the $14.25 million the New York Yankees proposed for shortstop Derek Jeter in 2001.

Is any pitcher really worth that much dough? Shelf life way too short and way too unpredictable unless theyre rare work horses like CC or halladay. Look at Johan.

Since the Club offered 17 in the end after arbitration he'll get 19+/-

    Unbelievable

would have a hard time seeing him getting the 21.5m in arb. Lee will have 21.5, Halladay 20, Verlander 21, Weaver 18; Lincecum's stats have trended the wrong direction the last couple of year, although he still is an elite pitcher.

for a One year deal definitely. Over a long term contract, there are always question, especially with pitchers.

The kid has two Cy Young awards and a WS ring in his first three years in the big leagues. $17.5 million is actually low balling the guy.

The kid is not really a kid any longer.
Timmy was a 14 game loser last year, had a decent, but not great 1.20 WHIP and hi K/per nine ratio went down for the third consecutive year.

Timmy should take the 17 million, drop to his knees and thank Christ each and every night before going to sleep that he is getting 17 million to make 33 pitching starts across a six month season playing a kids game.

He'll get more this year than Pablo will the next three. Hard to think he's getting too much for what he's done, but what's he going to do in the future? If he doesn't get the lowest run support in the league like last year he'll have a 20 win season.

He doesn't have to worry much about wins when it comes time to cash. ERA and WHIP determines effectiveness.

well he's worth 21 million a year because he's and elite pitcher and 20+mil is what elite pitchers get paid.

and its just as arguable that giving 70 million per year and 120 million dollar commitment to a guys who has never throw a pitch in the majors is too much,

    steve , 33 games x 2hrs (avg) work = 66hrs per yr

    20,000,000 / 66 = $303K per hour
