Go online. Only brick&mortar places that have good selection are hobby shops but they're at a premium. https://quecan.com/ has best prices for me in Canada. Very fun. Goal is to get rookie cards of the best players from that year (obviously). Other than that, 1/1 or other lower numbered cards or game used/auto'd. Much like gambling tbh.

Gary Vee very long on sports cards. Says the cycle is turning, everyone from the heyday of the 90s has grown up into 30 and 40 year olds with disposable income. Very fun hobby. I invested heavy into Claude Giroux in his rookie year because I thought he could win a cup and/or scoring title (think he finished 3rd one year). They still gained value because he turned into a good player that seems well liked by fans but they would have skyrocketed with a scoring title.

The Giannis card he's talking about buying hundreds for $150 and selling for $380 now sell for $550. Pretty sharp. Time to start looking for the Zion rookie cards.

Don't buy them at the retail stores, Rudy.

Those packs are more than likely all picked over by pack searchers.

Go to a card shop, or buy online.

                          Good luck with the pencils.

DiggityDag is right, don't do "retail" packs. You want "hobby" packs. Basically the industry knows there are two types of consumers, one who will just buy on impulse and not care about retail/resale value beyond the "get rich quick" ideal. The other is researching draft classes, rookies, up and comers and balancing that with price/quality/public opinion on certain sets. It's very much like sports betting, just trying to find an edge.

If Rudy buys cards and posts pictures I will do the same.

I haven't bought cards in years.

I have a card store not too far from my house though.

What cards are we going to get?

Also, does this mean I need to buy a fukkin Beckett?

                                          1960s

Panini started in Italy in the 1960s when two brothers working in the newspaper distribution business happened to acquire rights to some images of Italian soccer stars. They put the pictures on stickers and stuck them on their newspapers hoping to drive sales.

Food historians generally agree, panini, as we know them today, originated in the sandwich shops of Italy, perhaps as early as the 1960s

It's just a marketing name for the box. Very similar but the more expensive will have more "hits" which are special cards. Good to know it comes out November 10th, I already emailed QueCan this morning to see if they would have pre-orders.

The baseline Panini hobby box will be around $130 and contains "24 Packs Per Box, 8 Cards Per Pack" but it's different for every box/set so make sure to double check. Some now will say "Hobby Box" and be like $800 but then you read and it's 1 pack per box, 4 cards per pack so you just paid $200 a card. The thing with those sets is all the cards are rookies, numbered, auto'd, game used, etc. and only the big stars so quite easy to flip those cards on ebay for small profit.

The goal is to always get the stars and that years rookies, the rarer the card the better. The 1/1's are the holy grail.

It relies heavily on trust so you usually have to videotape it/live stream it but they sell Cases for wholesale price which is usually like 6-12 Hobby Boxes for like $1000. This is the best bang for buck and what the big timers do. In fact, some people say this is the ONLY way to buy as some cards are guaranteed per Case (just like there's some subsets guaranteed per Hobby Box). What store owners will do is open up a Case and keep opening the Hobby Boxes within until they get the "one card per Case" subset (holy grail type card) and then they sell the rest of the Hobby Boxes (that now don't have a chance of the grail card). It still could have other good cards, no doubt, but it will never have the blue chip best of the best. If they open the whole case and don't get the grail until the last Hobby Box then that's kind of like a loss for them but if they hit it early, it becomes really profitable for them. They like to gamble just like us but they kinda rig the deck, so to speak.

                                                                  Food for thought.

The big hits would be the "Museum Framed Autographs" which are still hugely popular but one of the "Case" hits where it's one of these per case. Frame types include Silver (/15), Gold (/10), Black (/5) and Wood (1/1). The Black Framed Auto is listed for ~$1250 so I imagine the Wood Frame would push close to $5k.
