Drop out and learn a trade. odds are when you graduate you will be unable to find a job in your field and will take something just to get by and it will be your career. Take it from me a college graduate going through the same shit. The piece of paper is worthless. 0 jobs for educated people and you are not going to be any different. Everyone thinks when they graduate they will have it made with a degree but you will be working min wage doing a job you hate. I am telling you college is a scam, wish I never went. Learn a trade. Pipe fitters are hot now and make good money. Do not go into debt any more with college.

especially after stuff like obamacare, if you have a family of 4 you are almost as well off making 30k as 80k after earned income credit, property tax assistance, food stamps, etc etc and the taxes/health insurance you would pay on the 80k.

College is important to a point. People who are telling you to stay in school no matter what, are not exactly being responsible. MANY times (and by many I mean MOST times) people will graduate school in huge debt, without the ability to obtain a job that will ever get their head above water. I have a pretty nice paying job and left college with only 12,000 in debt. I work with a kid who is pretty much like my errand boy, who makes less than me but went to college.....he owes 120,000 dollars.

It's not that college isnt worth it....its just that College itself isnt enough anymore.

Some more background for you guys, first off I'm at a local community college. Debt isn't a problem, atleast for these first 2 years.

Secondly half the ppl in my classes are fat welfare moms. It sucks. I have a job and am bout to start another and quit my server job since I can't balance 2 jobs and keep my gpa up.

Also my cars engine blew and I'm about a grand in the hole right now. Thinking about taking the semester off, working these 2 crap restaurant jobs 60-80 hours a week. By September I will hopefully have a decent used car and ready to come back.

best decision i ever made. dropped a couple g's to get all of my computer certifications and will use it as a backup when/if we ever move. in the meantime i now have all my insurance licenses and doing pretty well for myself.

By computer certifications you mean programming and whatnot? How hard and time-consuming was all of that? I'm considering something similar.

Read this chart and think twice about dropping out. Many places look for any degree as filter just to get your resume in the door.

That said, get the best deal you can on tuition (no fancy private schools) and don't put yourself in debt to finsh out.

Entry-level data entry or some other basic business job making 35k out of college might leave you in a little debt and you'll still be making shit pay, but your future job earnings potential is far better.

Almost all schools have outdated gen-ed requirements that aren't really applicable to one's desired career.

Hiring managers don't care though -- businesses hire you because a college diploma serves as a mechanism that signals a certain level of competence.

Unless your robbing the casino with your card counting... probably not a good move... went I was down with school I had about less than 10 k in loans... but had money saved up.. now I'm doing just fine myself... remember with loans you don't need to pay the 50k back at once... you can pay 2 or 300 a month... being a card dealer won't make you much on top of car payments house payments food etc

yeah things like A+, microsoft certs, network+ and a couple others.

wasn't too hard for me, but i've been around computers daily for the past 15 years.

here's a website with some sample questions that you might see on a test. if you pass this, then it might be worth looking it to. thats also a great website for other learning tools

If the classes are easy ever thought of taking harder ones? College placement test probably put you in elementary classes, not your fault. The entry level college classes are meant to weed out the slackers(college is tons of writing). Company's hang out on campus waiting for a motherfuker to slip and accept 30k to do a 60k a year job. Obviously you cannot do these jobs taking hip-hop and history classes.

A college degree enhances your chances to get an employment. Don't even think about dropping out unless you've got other reliable ways to ensure a job to support you. It is right that all academic books are not written in clear and lucid manner but you can always refer to more easy books written for same subjects. Find ways to solve your problem with studies with such books and also give attention on the way you study and prepare for exams. Books are available for speed reading, memory improvement and studying in smart way.

There are people who become inspired or driven by whatever motivates them, and those folks can succeed no matter what. There are also people who attend college and don't ever develop. However, on average a college grad earns $1.2M more over his lifetime than a HS grad. The unemployment chart above is another indicator. And just as important as education, the experiences, contacts, and friendships you make outweigh the cost by a wide margin.

Bengals......stay the course. A lot of young guys (some with degrees) on this board trying to make their way in a horrible economy. It's left them angry........asking "why did I waste my time and go in debt if I can't get a good job?". Well, guess what........you're only 20 years old and you'll most likely be in the work force for another 40 to 45 years. The economy and job market will improve. When? Who knows, but it will and you'll be much better off with your degree/s. Trust in those that have beaten the path before you..........stay in school.

Dude man don't drop out you are giving up too easily. It is a hard process but it's worth going for the experience and education you get from it. It's going to take me 6 years to graduate overall (currently in my 5th) and I started at a JC to save money. First thing is you shouldn't do any 8am classes at all since you will hate waking up that early all the time. Try taking your earliest class around 10am and schedule them back to back. Also try just taking 2 classes at a time and just slowly build up your load each semester. You can work 2 jobs and also take 1-2 classes at the same time. It's tough but it teaches you a lot of character. Trust me once you drop it will be VERY HARD to go back
