i said in the other thread made in december usa should be broken up (and i still believe it should be)

correct me if im wrong (because im obviously not an olympics expert), but aren't there many sports in the olympics where if your qualifying time is good enough, you can send multiple people for the same sport. i mean it seems like all i see is chinese competing in diving and some countries have 0. having 2 usa teams wouldn't really be much trouble imo since everyone can see the majority of people on sbr are from usa.

thats not correct Rudy as far as i know a country is limited to 4 starters at the olympics, only exception they had a gold medal winner then 5 can start,

it would make the actual tournament series more difficult for sure but it Does seem fair.

plus can sbr even detect a user's exact location within the usa. some people live in multiple states and/or have logged in from multiple ones.

not sure what kinda can of worms this would open for liars either.

well some countries have 0. why is that? wouldn't you think some homeless guy from Haiti say I can dive or a group do synchronized swimming from Iraq? I realize there are all types of qualifying AFTER you get to the olympics, but why isn't there a person for every designated event from every country?

wasn't it relay track or relay swimming the USA had 2 teams going for the Gold and Silver?

    (these are serious questions)

Most of the contests here at SBR are focused towards american sports ( Beat the Prick etc ).

Most of the questions in Trivia are about american sports, with a lot of them about college sports, which would correspond to americans having to answer questions about european little league soccer.

Now there is one single contest where being American is a disadvantage, and we have to hear numerous americans crying about it.

Exactly! The focus on American sports have naturally meant that the visitors are mostly Americans. But if we changed it, then maybe we could attract a more sophisticated crowd.

Besides...we saw what Americas A-team brought in last years world cup and it wasnt pretty. If America were to have two teams, it would just be embarrassing.

Care to wager on where the American team finishes this year?

Last year was admittedly embarrassing, but it was also a fluke based on a small sample size, IMO.

I'm confident that regardless of the players, the result would not be "just as embarrassing" this year.

    1. Lets clear the insults up. Do you want to know why Americans are smarter? I just made you look dumb by posting a website and instead of saying fukkin dumb Euros, I said nothing about your location. If any person located in another part of the World makes an American look dumb they say fukkin yanks, dumb Americans etc etc. You see, we don't even compare on same levels. So no matter where you are, just remember we don't care and wouldn't call your whole country clueless.

    2. 100% of people didn't know there was a world cup until way into the process. Had everyone known it probably would've been a different lineup, although judging by the people I've seen with American Flags, I'd say most would've and should've been there anyway. Even so, since you're located in Europe and so much smarter, surely you realize variance is a big factor in such a small amount of tournaments. So by saying what happened last year as a general indicator of the poker playing ability of Americans on SBR makes you look really dumb.

    3. Focusing on American sports doesn't mean American people come here. You see, even before all of these points and poker there was a forum. Believe it or not, it was dominated by Americans. You clearly have cause and effect missed up.

    let me help:
Because 52.4% of SBR is from USA, SBR has contests mainly directed towards American sports.

SBR didn't, out of nowhere, say I think we will have USA sports contests and see which people show up here.

By the way, since it is actually a World Cup and not Olympics (which I for some reason though of) makes sense for it to be 1 team only, although with such an unreal amount of people from USA I still think 2 teams are needed.

    Sure, we can do that.

In all honesty I dont see any team being much bigger favourite than anyother team. If SBR book is gonna offer any team at +400 then im gonna bet it. I was just yanking your chain, as I am sure you could read into my post.

I agree, as online poker is mostly random. I would also have bet on underdogs last year, but the odds were severely juiced (no team was even +400, IIRC, even with the Americans favored outright).

But if you want to bet on USA finishing last again, I'd give you +300, or we can bet on whether USA finishes top 2 or not.

We can just make a heads up bet between Europe and US. But if you dont mind, then lets wait until closer to the tournament starts. If SBR is gonna make the US such a huge favourite as they did last year, then I may take my action to the SBR book instead

Sure, but US was like -150 last year and the other teams were still not big underdogs (huge vig, so I believe other teams were +200 to +350 or so). If they bring back the search function, I can get the exact numbers.

It says 48% of us come from outside the states. You don't sound like you don't accept that as a large portion?

Take into account the Alexa toolbar (which is how they collect those stats) was originally marketed only toward Americans, and may still have a majority American userbase, and it's highly likely Americans make up quite a bit less than 50%.

But his point was that the other 48% don't spend a lot of time crying that 90% of the site is geared toward 50% of the users, but you'd think this was a Pommy majority forum the way the whinging breaks out if it EVER goes the other way even an inch.

I can assure you that Sbr would gladly sell sportsbook cash to Americans, which they have done in the past. You are very welcome to cry about not being able to buy that, but your crying should be directed towards the American government.

Or even better than crying, you could get off your asses and vote for someone new.

love this world cup stuff.. Always good to have some country to country battles with each other. I just hope I am lucky enough to make the American team. I don't see us finishing last this year, but its hard to say with this software who ends up where. Its a crap shoot honestly.

    48% occupies 3 different teams
    52% is 1 team.

    See the difference?

You see, the world isn't "collectively" betting the same sports.

The 6.5% in Canada don't give a fukk about Indian cricket leagues the 3.8% there care about. Just like the 2.4% in Sweden don't care about the less than 1% in a South American country that has professional baseball league.

This whole competition is about the 10 best players from each region, obviously more people play in the US, but why does that mean that the top 20 should be able to qualify form there? Not like the top 10 US players will be that much better than players from other regions anyway..

We did study all the options. I think the best option is to allow the US team a couple of alternates. These alternates will not play unless someone on the team can not make it. The end result is the US would still have a single team, there would still be the exact format and each team would have an equal chance to win.

If we make a minor modification such as adding a couple of alternates there will need to be overwhelming evidence that this is needed. Such evidence could be that the 11th place US player would be first in at least one region.

Bottomline is play hard and we will look at this in March and see if a non format changing modification is warranted, if it is, what it will be. For now; just play hard.

Like I said, since its called World Cup and not Olympics I think 1 team is ok. For some reason I got it mixed up.

I stated my case for more than 1 US team in the December thread. It didn't get much attention so I knew it wasn't going to change.

I just came in to back other US people that stated about adding another team as well and take a shot at those that put down Americans yet again.
