even the officer said to me at the jail, i wish i could hide you for a hour you would be fine, i said throw me in the cell, but he laughed, usually you have to stay 4 hours to sober up, they took me right home after i did the test, the young officer told me on the way home, you having no record, nothing on your driver license, i can see a &600 fine 6 months no license, if you get the right judge he said, we only have 2, one nice guy and one bitch, he said if you get him and use the baby thing, i think you will be alright.....he said waste of time to get a lawyer, use legal aid sometimes there better.....plus paying out 1500 to a lawyer to get maybe 400-500 of your fine, don;t make sense

I picked one up in 2000. I met my friends at a restaurant for a dinner and decided to go out with them afterwards. I had a great time, but had a few too many. My friends dropped me off at my car at 2 a.m. and I tried to sleep it off in the back seat. An hour or so later there was tapping on my window and a bright light in my eyes. The cops asked if I was drinking and I didn't lie and told them the truth. Next thing I know I was being read my rights, cuffed and stuffed in the back of the patrol car.

I hired a cheapo lawyer for $500 bucks who said he could get me off. He couldn't. The cop lied and said my engine was warm. It was his word against mine and I was screwed.

Overall, it was probably one of the best things that happened to me. While I wasn't driving drunk that night I had done it more times than I am proud of. Since then however, I have been so afraid of getting hit a second time that I never drink more than 1 beer or drink if I am driving. Who knows if I would've eventually killed someone if I stayed on the path I was taking.

Losing my license also started a chain of events that led to meeting my wife, getting a free graduate degree, and landing my job, but that's another story.

Getting a DUI is just plain stupid...if you drink more than a beer at a bar you've put yourself in a position that you can't win at....you've got to be smarter then that....cops know all the angles on where to hide and monitor people and nightly people fall for it. If you don't have a DD...keep $30 in your pocket for a cab....it's worth the investment because once you're bagged you're screwed. I'm not evening adding in what happens if you hurt or kill someone....that's a whole different level of disaster

Not me. My body metabolizes alcohol quickly though. I have done the breathalizer moments after consuming a few pints and still register near 0 blood alcohol.

My buddy's dad is an expert DWI witness at courts. Says he's seen so many people get ****** that he won't even have one beer and drive. Basically, if the cop wants you to fail any tests, he can make you fail even if you're not drunk.

If you ever get pulled over and the cop suspects you've been drinking, it is your right to refuse a field sobriety test. This will give the prosecutors as little evidence as possible (if your balancing on one foot and a gust of wind blows you over don't think for one second they'll believe that In Court). You won't lose your license when denying a field test but will for denying breathalyzer.

Also, his father has been to DWI courses where they have proved that if a cop receives a transmission on his Walkie talkie while you are blowing into the breathalyzer, the electronics are affected and it will register a BAC value even if you haven't had one beer. Said he's seen it first hand.

Personally, even if you've had a beer a two, I'd say cover your breath who driving because once they smell it, you're in trouble.

just last week i hitched a ride to the casino for a few hours of poker, then took a cab back.
the couple hundred bucks or so lost at the casino (or even better the $30 for a cab ride home) is well worth it compared to a drunk driving ticket.

i have even stayed overnight at the hyatt for $100 rather than drive home when i think i'm even borderline or if i see a cop anywhere near my car.

    Another story.

Guy drank some beers with some friends at night, less than four beers. Woke up very early to drive wife to airport. A driver blew a red light and hit this guy in his car and she was killed. When he got out of his car he freaked out and puked. When the cops came he registered a very high BAC because puking brought all of the alcohol into his mouth and he was arrested.

In the end, this guy got off without vehicular manslaughter but paid up the ass in lawyer fees, $60k and served jail time

Basically, if you accidentally hits someone in black clothes on the side of the road and you're sober, it's an accident, if you've had one beer, you're going to jail for many years

And yet if you rape or murder someone you'll be back on the streets in no time... Still, the US isn't as harsh on DUI's as they are in Canada. Up here you can walk the street smoking a joint and the cops don't care, but if they catch you drinking you'll be crucified You'll get more leniency if you get out of your car and murder someone than if you accidentally hit that same person after just 1 beer.

I'm 1 for 1 in sobriety tests. Got pulled over after work one night about 8 years ago, doing 73 in 65 by a local on the highway, requested a statie, took him almost two hours to show, blew 0.07 when he did. Have a nice night!

Technically, they could've jailed you anyway since interpolation would show you were above the limit when pulled over. All depends on what attitude the cop has when he pulls you over

Both the local was irate with me, the statie irate with her, he made it real clear from the time he arrived that it was his show.

Definitely expensive. Only time I've ever driven drunk too (although I felt fine). Definitely learned my lesson.
Lawyer is the hugest waste of money in these things. They sell you all that shit how they can get you out, blah, blah. Then they go talk to the city attorney and tell you it don't look but they got you this assume deal......big fine, alcohol classes, no jail time, etc (the same deal you could have got for yourself simply by asking). $1800 straight down the shitter.

Dui in northeast Pa= 30 days license susp first offense, hit and run 2x legal limit , my mom being the culprit. In MA where I grew up you get 2 speeding tickets in a 6 month span and its gone for 6 month, but they will throw the book at you on a marjuana case out here.

Breathalyzers don't work that way. Breathalyzers measure the amount of alcohol in the air that's in your lungs. It has absolutely zero to do with alcohol in your mouth or stomach.

They measure particles of alcohol in your breath and if you just puked I will guarantee you it will register higher. Go try it

Get busted tonight, Friday night for DUI, you will sit in a cell by yourself until at least Tuesday morning, and chances are you won't see a judge until Tuesday afternoon.

You don't have to see a judge necessarily. If you have a buddy who can post bail, you are free. Most detention centers have release times twice a day; one in the morning, another in the late afternoon. If bail is posted, they would probably release you within 24 hours.
