Is it hard to find a job in Vegas?
Any kind of job really. I'm not moving Til I finish my 2 year degree but me and my friend are saving up and I was going to move there before I go on to finish my degree for a year atleast and see how I make out. Would it be hard finding a job in a casino?
If you listen to the dealers, they say "24-hour city...You should be able to find SOME job in Vegas."
That sentiment was from years back. I do think there are a lot of things to be done in Vegas. Always new construction. Might not be exactly what u want. Also not sure how hard the economy has hit Vegas. Maybe less than elsewhere, b/c people continue to gamble.
Finish your degree. It's one fukking year. Jesus.
This place was hit harder by the recession than anyone outside of Detroit. Not even the cocktail waitresses make decent money here anymore.

Not really. pretty easy if you have a degree and can pass a background check and drug test.
Many many jobs in a casino. Many entry level positions (although some are graveyard)
A little bit tougher to get a front desk type of job, but getting a job in the cage, sportsbook, pool, security, most customer service is not that hard.
Why anyone would even contemplate dropping out of school with a WHOLE year left to come here and work a minimum wage job is appalling to me...

Not really sure if you know this, but there are not many so called "good" jobs available at the moment. Working in a casino with decent benefits and the opportunity for advancement within a large corporation is not the worst option out there. There are subway sandwich shops that are receiving hundreds of applications for one open position in some cities. I may be wrong here, but it seems that one of the problems with Vegas is many of the unemployed have made questionable decisions in their past that has effected their ability to be hired in certain environments. I believe that is one of the reasons the unemployment rate is the way it is in Vegas.

No idea when you moved here. But prior to the recession, there was CONSTANT construction on the strip that employed thousands of people at very good wages. Where do you suppose a skilled structural steelworker that's worth about $40/hour finds a job when there's no construction? And that's just an example. TONS of skilled labor was laid off due to the recession here.

And yes, he asked about a job in a casino when he has the opportunity to go to school. Hmm... walk around a smokey casino waking up bums in the sportsbook all day making $10/hour? Or finish your education and get a decent job down the road?

Seriously: you might want to really get the most out of your life, and heading to Vegas to live might not be the ticket.
Im surprised my city sacramento is on the top 10 list. In any case education is getting more exPensive every year and the premise of " i wanna stay there for a year to see how i make out", is foolish. Moving to vegas is like writting a busness plan. You must be prepared or youll get hit hard. You can get a apartment and stay there for 2 months in the summer and ill guarentee you you'll have a blast and you can continue to get your education.
Without a degree or a connection you'll have a shitbird job. Taking off a year to bus tables, be a security guard or clean up after people is wasting your time.

Sounds like your interest in Vegas is more related to gambling then employment. Getting an education is the key and discovering that at 18 rather then at 60 is the most important lesson you will ever learn.

Gambling out of your system, just don't fall victim and never return to school. Anyone with a little bit of commen sense can get a job in any city.
It depends on the job experience you have and what job market you are trying to enter.
Construction is what really brought Las Vegas numbers down, combined with less business taking their fancy conferences out there.
Jim Feist always has openings for telephone work. You will call potential customers. The more people you sign up the more you make. You can make good money if you know how to work the phones. It's like the movie Boiler Room what you would be doing.
Anyone who does that for a living should just end it all. What a miserable life it has to be trying to scam people for 8 hours a day.
Funny this question comes up now, I have family visiting from LV for Xmas and we were talking about this yesterday.
Long Version: The job shortage is alot worse than even a year ago. There used to be some service industry jobs for college aged kids but now, young people are competing with "adults" with degrees for these same jobs.
In the past these people would be considered over-qualified for these jobs and businesses wouldn't hire them because they knew they would get a better job and leave. However now the places know that there just isn't anywhere for them to leave for so they can hire the best person. Why hire a potentially flaky teenager when you can get someone with the intelligence/perseverance to finish a degree and a family to support? It's even difficult for these people to get an interview unless you know someone.
There are some jobs doing cold sales available but they burn out and/or fire anyone who doesn't make goals after a month. The rest of the work out there is MLM shit and other scams.
Short Version: There are no jobs in LV now unless you know someone and have a degree (this includes minimum wage jobs).

I think any young person moving to vegas is awesome! shit I'm 32 wish I did something so cool when I was 18-23 granted I did finish my degree at UCSB and I live in calif. But if you live in shitzville indiana or something I say go for it!

Also I made 84k last year with my degree and education my buddy jason made 70k in just cash dealing cards in a shit town in california. Its not the worst Idea in the world. Also there is always UNLV.......
