2010 World Series of Poker Main Event winner, Jonathan Duhamel, was robbed and attacked by two home invaders at his home outside of Montreal, Canada.
The events of what went down are frightening as Duhamel says he was tied up, beaten in the face and head and told he was going to be killed. A day after a brutal home invasion, Duhamel has posted a statement on his website noting that he’s lucky to be alive.
“Two men broke into my house and I was physically assaulted and robbed. After being threatened with death and having given them everything I had, I was bound and hit repeatedly in the face and body before my attackers left.”
Among the items stolen was his World Series of Poker champion’s bracelet.
“I won’t deny that these two items have a value much larger than money to me, and I hope with all my heart that we will be able to recover them in the near future,” Duhamel wrote.
Both attackers were described as white men, with one of them being approximately five-foot-eight and weights 180 pounds. They are reportedly still on the loose.
“The investigation is still ongoing,” said police spokesman Mark David.
Duhamel didn’t sustain any severe injuries, but he’s said to be “hurting all over.” Police aren’t sure whether or not he was a target, or a victim of a random attack. His total poker winnings to date gross more than $9.5 million.

You have to go through a process and get a license to have one. You also can't shoot someone that breaks into your house legally unless you follow certain rules. You got to be smart about it like placing a weapon on them or something like that if you shoot them. There have been burglars in Canada that have got hurt tripping in peoples houses, suing those people for tripping in the house they robbed and then winning the lawsuit. Some fairly ridiculous laws in Canada.

Hell yeah man, I win the World Series of Poker, you'd better believe I'd be investing in some major security! There was a similar incident involving casinos in Miss. and Indiana a while back. Guy would win a jackpot or have a good night at the tables, next thing you know he's being home invaded, tied up, beaten and robbed. Come to find out, some worker snitch at the casino was giving the winner's address to a couple of thugs and they would then drive to the guys home and rob him! Always watch your back if you're leaving the casino or even the bingo hall, they were robbing winners of bingo games too, knowing the players would have a chunk of cash on them with they left the hall. You really gotta be aware and keep your guard up around those places, you just never know!

Home invasion is basically burglary but someone is home. The reason it doesnt have a minimum maximum is because most guys claim they didnt know anyone was there. So having a hardcore set rule is 'unconstitutional'. Most guys who get home invasion conviction plead out to a severe robbery count and do the max. In extreme cases where it is beyond certainty they knew someone had to be there they will get a severe home invasion sentence,and those can be 30 years.

It is also why a lot of burglaries happen during the day now as they (crooks) figure it is safer and wont find anyone there. Risk of being caught goes up, risk of a more severe penalty goes down.

But seriously crime in the world has changed, only lazy stupid guys are going out and doing things 'personally'. Real criminals are behind a computer screen or hacking into something and stealing stuff that way.

Violent crimes at an all time low, and that is because everyone is doing it by computer. But you still have the dummies out there doing it 'old school'.

The alarm company calls and the robbers make Doyle pick up the phone. He gives them the wrong “code” word, which is supposed to be a single that some shit is going down and send in the god damn troops. Instead, the alarm company calls back and tells the robber, who picked up the phone this time, that he gave them the wrong code word.
