Ohio State just got a bit of a spanking from NCAA (bowl ban)

    From CNN:

The NCAA imposed a one-year postseason ban on Ohio State University's football program, citing the school for "failure to monitor, preferential treatment and extra benefit violations."

Former head coach Jim Tressel also was found to have engaged in unethical conduct. Tressel resigned in May after admitting he played ineligible players and lied to the NCAA about it.

The penalties in this case, some of which were self-imposed and adopted by an NCAA committee, include a bowl ban for the 2012 season, additional scholarship reductions and forfeiture of almost $340,000.

They will regroup easy from this. Without a big name coach it may have been more of a blow but not being bowl eligible is a slap on the wrist. Meyer will be fine as well as the program. They will still go 10-2 next season.

USC gets HAMMERED by NCAA for Reggie & his step-daddy getting benefits. No proof Pete Carroll had any idea of what the Bush family was up to.

Ohio State players accepted extra benefits AND NCAA has proof that HEAD COACH Jim Tressel lied through his teeth trying to cover it up and yet they get a MUCH, MUCH lesser penalty.

    NCAA is a fukking joke.

You do realize Ohio State self reported all of this right? That's the difference between them and USC.

OSU kids sold their OWN property, anyone who doesnt support that is a jackass just like mark may.

I can't wait to bump this thread in 5 years for cam newton, that is breaking the rules and the spirit of the game. A school bought a player....

Ya osu kids trading jerseys and selling autos for tattoos.. that is just terrible.... And they made soooo much money also, life changing amount.

its also widely known what osu kids did happens at every major and mid-major campus across the country for decades now. The kids are not getting paid money, they get 1 meal a day and they weigh 200+lbs.. how are they buying new clothes, food etc..?

use your head people, they didn't break a law, they broke a rule by a struggling group of old men who cant even run their product to produce the most profit. And the sole reason they are resisting the playoffs is because they don't want to admit they were wrong.

OSU will not be affected by this negatively. They will not lose their fan base, they will still get quality athletes (losing 9 scholorships over 3 years isn't that bad) and they still have a top notch coach for recruiting. I see them at 10-2 or 9-3 next year and in line to win a national championship in two-three years.

brooks........you dumb fukk........the big difference between USC and Ohio State is:

Jim Tressel lied through his fukking teeth to the NCAA. Tressel was the HEAD FUKKING COACH and tried to COVER UP THIS SCANDAL you dipshit! Kids will be kids......they will cross lines and make mistakes (although....many more broke the rules at Ohio State than did at SC). That's what kids do. But, when you are the HEAD FUKKING COACH of a major college football program you probably shouldn't LIE THROUGH YOUR FUKKING TEETH to your DADDY (aka...NCAA). The Luckeyes got away easy on this.

To summarize....one Trojan football player took extra benefits and the head coach didn't know about it. Multiple Luckeye football players took extra benefits and the head coach found out about it...........then lied to the NCAA about it.

And this means exactly what? That the NCAA isn't supposed to penalize them for BREAKING THE RULES?

Personally, I can't stand the NCAA and it's old pathetic rule book. But, until those rules are changed........they are the rules.

this argument is just plain stupid. so ohio st. can break the rules as much times as they want as long as they self report? doesn't ohio st have over 350 secondary violations under tressel? the NCAA is just plain broken. and besides, there was never any proof USC directly knew about Bush and his parents. how could their compliance dept monitor one player and his family's activities when they were happening in San Diego? so therefore, how could they self report? infact, the NCAA stated that USC did a sufficient job in cooperating with the NCAA and providing more than enough information to them. you don't believe USC had no knowledge of what was going on? when Paul Dee was justifying the sanctions he said, "they should have known."
