Ken Rosenthal on MLB Network just said this about the Marlins..
"The reason why the Marlins went all out after Pujols and don't now go after Prince Fielder is because Albert is a Latin player and Prince is an African-American and he doesn't fit in with the Marlins' marketing. it's nothing racial."

Yeah that's kind of a stupid statement....listening to the St Louis stations today it sounds like Prince is on the minds of St Louis and the Cubs after the Pujols signing

It was like the Rush Limbaugh thing when he said what he said about McNabb. I don't think anyone knew how to follow it up.

I bet Rosenthal is one of those ignorant white folk go "I'm not racist, but..." and then go on to say something incredibly racist. He's right regarding their agenda though.

OK I think he shouldn't have said it obviously but if u think about it it is kinda true. U can't go any way around the fact that there is racism in America. Florida has a HUGE Latin market and I'm sure that does factor in their decision to spend that kind of money. Pujols would bring sooo much revenue to that city and Fielder though is an awesome player but because of some people that ARE really into their culture wont back Fielder like they would Pujols. Latin people are huge on culture. My wife is half Mexican and her side of the family that is Mexican back their people sooo much. They would back Pujols more than they would Fielder and would be much more valuable to the organization. He still should have kept this opinion to himself though.

Thats why the heat playoff games the seats are empty till the 2nd quarter. Thats why they had to have that lame commercial for fans to fan up! lol
And the marlins could become the latin americans team. thats what i think there trying to. The yankees are kinda the de facto LA (latin american) team. But with a team based in SoFlo with some marketable spanish speaking players they could make a lot of money by having a huge fan base all over the world.

what he said was sort of true, but he phrased extremely poorly.

There is absolutely nothing racist about this. Its a fact. Teams have been doing this for years. "Hey we have a large latino community around us who like baseball but dont come to the stadium, lets get the biggest latino star at the moment and see if that brings them to the games". Nothing racist, its just business smart.

Prince fielder would be an awesome player and money maker in 95% of markets in the mlb, but miami is not one of them.
Yes, because no professional athlete wants to live in Miami. If only MIA had beaches, clubs, and shiiit for rich people to do.

Baseball is a business and teams are in the business of selling tickets not so much winning games (e.g. Chicago Cubs). The Marlins marketing team made a decision based on their research that having a high profile Latin player would be a much a better draw for fans than having a high profile African-American player (i.e. they would make more money that way). The decision to pursue Pujols was a business decision more than anything else. I don't see anything wrong (or inaccurate for that matter) with what Ken Rosenthal said.

Fielder is not an "awesome player" anymore. Just 8 HRs, a robust .212 average, plus the fact that he's always hurt & has a ridiculously huge contract. Maybe that's why Miami passed on him...

This argument is stupid.
1. Latinos don't watch baseball.
2. Dolphins, Panthers and Heat don't have Latinos.
