Anyone have a pet BETTA fish?

If so, what is the allure?

    How big a tank?

Are they easy to care for?

I had one that lived for a year. His name was Mr. fishy.
be sure to change the water, have a filter, have an air pump. the water needs a lot of oxygen in it.

Yes, good pets but be sure to give him a companion. Betta fish need to be surrounded by other Betta fish. The more the merrier.

Actually I think that's a bad Idea, Betta Fish are very territorial and tend to fight with others M or F... that's why you usually see them in separate tanks.

And they also are AIR BREATHERS, so you don't need an air pump their what are known as "Labyrinth Fish"Hope this helps.

I've kept most fish you can get from a pet store, and personally, I'd recommend you get something different. Unless that's the fish that you're set on.
Betta's do look nice, but the problem with getting one from a pet store is they are usually unhealthy by the time you get them. If you didn't notice, Bettas are almost always kept in their own (ridiculously) tiny tank, with essentially no room to move. On top of that, they're overbred in such bad conditions that they're usually carrying some kind of disease/illness by the time they get to you.

I'm not sure if Swinging Johnson was kidding, but Betta's are also known as Siamese fighting fish, so... don't put more then one male in a tank, or they'll fight to the death. They're pretty good with any other type of fish though.

they are difficult to care for and usually don't live long..... and yes, they are very mean to eachother..... I used to take my couple of my cousins and put them in clear plastic cups with water then put the 2 cups together and watch the lil fukkers go nuts - good times

Had one long time ago, had to take out of the aquarium because it was getting such a beating everyday.

It's for kids and beginners, people don't usually take care of them right. A little bowl is not enough for a fish to live to its potential.

Have a 90 gallon tank now with cool synodontis catfish, fancy plecos and bunch of other fish.

In college, we would bet on Beta fish wars. Would take about a half hour and one would be sun tanning...

I have one currently living in a 5 gal FW tank. He has a snail as a friend to help keep his tank really clean. I've moved onto larger SW projects since them, but this is probably the hardest of all FW fish you can own.
