I was wondering the same thing. A guy in DR told me he has been there over 40 times. He said it is a paradise. Only problem is they don't really have all inclusive spots

Hawaii is nice. Its really good for those that are only comfortable with leaving the immediate shores of the US but still being in America.

If you want great resorts, beautiful beaches, etc.. take the flight further to Philippines or Thailand

Seems kinda like a waste of time for the reasons mentioned here in this thread............

Not an immediate worry, can't afford bus fare across the city let alone a flight to Hawaii...............but would like to know for future reference.

been to pearl harbor twice, and both times japanese tourists made me want to get revenge. little kids running around playing tag and yelling at what amounts to a cemetery is awful.

fish, go to maui. been to both islands, maui is where it's at. though i guess that depends on your preference.

"walking distance" also includes a neighborhood or two you, as a haole, wouldn't want to traverse...

You gotta try their sushi unbelievable. I cant even eat sushi on the mainland anymore.

See as many islands as you can go to east shore of oahu and go body surfing at sandys and that beach that is just past sandys. Go long boarding on waikiki. Go hiking and check out the waterfalls. Smoke some maui waui and go jet skiing. deep sea fishing for Tuna and Mahi Mahi and Wahoo.

Stay at the hilton waikaloan on kona if u go to kona.

Saying you are going to Hawaii or want to go to Hawaii doesn't explain the experience.

The northwestern rim of Maui is night/day from the much more commercial Big Island.

Kapalua Bay on Maui is about as nice it gets on this earth. It has some of the very best beaches in the world, and the properties are exclusive enough to give you tons of privacy. There used to be a great hotel there---Kapalua Bay Hotel, but it was renovated and converted into condos. Right now, the only game in that area is the Ritz, and honestly---it is heaven on earth.

I've been fortunate to be able to see and stay at some amazing places, but nothing tops the Ritz at Kapalua Bay on Maui.
