What to look for when buying a TV?

I want to buy a new TV 42-47 inches. Im a total noob since the last tv i bought was 4 years ago. Led's and 3d is the new thing but lcd's still have great quality and i dont mind settling. Westinhouse lcd's are 300(black friday sales) and some sonys run up to 1200 for the same specs( 46" 1080p lcd),. I no sonys a big name brand but i dont see much in difference of color quality. What do you guys look for when buying a tv?*

I dont play video games so internet ready dont really concern me.*

look at the hertz, look for 120+ 60 hertz tvs are choppy at picking up fast motion in action movies and following a football/baseball when it is going fast.

dude just go down to the store and take a look, you will immediately know which tv is right for you as soon as you lay eyes on it cause

    1. it will look awesome
    2. it will look like it may be wider than the wall it will be hanging on
    3. the picture will be crystal clear

I bought a 52 inch samsung plasma a few months ago. I like it a lot, it has 3D but we've never used it, didn't even by the glasses. It's internet ready has netflix app and all that.

Fukk a real expensive tv...not worth the money IMO...granted some features are nice but normally most of them aren't utilized. I would suggest buying something that has a nice picture and pay only the features you will use. My buddy bought a 3k samsung 55 inch a couple years ago. I tried to tell him there is no need to buy one with that many features. Guess what, he hasn't got around to using them and his tv today is probably worth $500 at best. Anything 55 inch or smaller you should be very happy with everything a $1200 or less provides. I have a 46 inch sharp I bought that was a DELL daily deal (great this time of year) for like $800 and love it.

Without HD Access your TV will look like sh1t no matter kind of brand it is, so make sure you have HD.

Should have these features at the very least.

    1080P
120 MHz, great for sports watching, if not go ahead with the slower 60 MHZ
Go LED or LCD, since plasma is only great in a dark room setting

My younger Brother has an Insignia 42' LED which looks great and is cheap from bestbuy.

I have a Panasonic Viera 42' LCD, despite it being a LCD, this TV still looks much better than them lower tier LED TV's.

You can't go wrong if you go with these:
    Samsung
    Panasonic
    LG

Frostno pretty much posted the basics already. But I have 2 LCD Vizios and love them. Not nearly as much money as one of the big names. Mine are a little out dated, but the picture is still great 2-3 years later. Still think Vizios are one of the best "bang for your buck". Plus Vizio is American unlike those rice eaters Samsung and LG.

frostno said it best, beware of Sony TVs as you tend to pay for the name alone.

Depends on how anal you are about picture quality and if you watch HD channels or not.

Sure those rice eaters make some nice TVs. Not "3x the cost" better though. I'll settle for a Vizio and send the saved money to Costa Rica.

Every body thinks their tv is great, until the go over to a buddies house. Then they see how bad their own tv is.
